A full driver update for a Brother MFC-L2720DW printer is getting stuck near the end of the installation process. Previous attempts to find a solution have not been successful, as there are reports of others facing the same issue.

    Hi @Richard Dextraze

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum regarding the IS052 error when installing your Brother printer on the Surface Pro 11.

Although we haven’t had the opportunity to work directly with the Surface Pro 11, based on our research and understanding of the device, it uses a Snapdragon ARM64 processor. Unfortunately, the Brother MFC-L2720DW printer does not currently offer a dedicated ARM64 driver. This may be the reason you're encountering the IS052 installation error, as it likely stems from a fundamental incompatibility between the driver software and the architecture of the Surface Pro 11’s operating system.

In the thread you referenced, I noticed that one potential connection method wasn’t mentioned: Wi-Fi printing, which the MFC-L2720DW does support. Please ensure that both your Surface Pro 11 and the Brother printer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

You can then follow these steps to add the printer:

    1. Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
    2. Click Add device.
    • If the printer appears: Select it and follow the prompts to complete the setup.
    • If it doesn’t appear
      • Click “Add manually”.
        • Choose “Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname”
          • Enter the printer’s IP address (you can find this on the printer’s Network Configuration Page).
            • Set Device Type to TCP/IP Device

Windows should then detect the printer and install a generic IPP Class Driver.

Based on our research, this method uses IPP (Internet Printing Protocol), which is built into Windows 11 and works reliably with ARM-based devices like the Surface Pro 11. No additional drivers are required.

We hope these details help you resolve the issue and get your printer working smoothly.
