why cant i open zip files from copilot

Every time I want copilot to create zip files I am not able to open then.

Please provide us more information on the exact steps you're following, what tool(s) you're using to interact with Copilot and what the resulting file looks like (e.g. empty, named wrong, etc).

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A Forum and sharing your experience with ZIP files created using Copilot.

I understand this might be confusing when files don’t work as expected. Based on the information I’ve been able to research from available sources, and from my own testing, it seems that Microsoft 365 Copilot currently does not support creating ZIP files directly. There isn’t an option to export conversations to a ZIP file, and when I asked Copilot to generate one, the output wasn’t usable.

Additionally, Microsoft 365 Copilot does not currently offer functionality for reading or extracting content from ZIP files.

I know this might be a bit disappointing, and I really appreciate your patience and understanding while Microsoft continues to expand and improve Copilot’s features. Hopefully, more capabilities like this will be added in the future.

Can the AI be trained not to ask to create a downloadable zip file since Copilot does not support it?

While using Copilot to help in developing .net code (or any other code, I suppose), Copilot will sometimes provide a zipfile of the response files. These zip files are always 'invalid'. I've tried 7z and other tools to try to extract the contents (usually a VS Solution/Project file with source code). AGAIN, the zip file is generated by Copilot for me to download and decompress. Not the other way around where I'm uploading a zip file to Copilot.

Copilot offers to send files in Zip format - why does it do that if it creates files that are then unusable?

Co-Pilot claims to be able to generate zip files and provides them for download. It offers this when you chat with it.

In my case the zip file was supposed to contain some scripts it generated for me. Windows 11 says the zip files are invalid and 7-zip says that they aren't archives. Unzip on WSL says the file is corrupt.

Co-Pilot even went on to (claim to) regenerate the .zip file for me in a way that was "compatible with Windows" and that file has the same problem. If "Microsoft 365 Copilot currently does not support creating ZIP files directly." then it should probably stop offering to do so and providing invalid files.
