How do I make new Outlook (Microsoft 365) save a contact list?
When I create a contact list using new Outlook, I cannot always save it. I get a message that says, "Something went wrong. We couldn't save your changes. Try again."

2025-06-17T10:19:58.48+00:00 Good day! Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A Forum.
I completely understand how frustrating it can be when something as simple as saving a contact list doesn’t work as expected.
Before we dive deeper, could you please confirm the type of Outlook account you're using? Knowing whether it's a Microsoft 365 business account or a personal Outlook.com account may allow us to help you through the most relevant suggestions.
Meanwhile, I’ve taken the initiative to test and research this further. If you haven’t already done so, please consider following steps as a reference:
- If saving a contact list isn’t working in the app, using the web version is often more reliable:
- Go to https://outlook.office.com/people > click New contact > New contact list > name your list, add contacts, and click Create
- The list should sync to the Outlook app if everything’s connected properly.
- Signing out and then signing back into Outlook may fix problems sync errors or trouble saving contact lists. It basically refreshes your login and clears out any glitches caused by outdated or expired credentials.
- Ensure you're using the latest version of Outlook and your browser or operating system to maintain compatibility and stability: Check for updates in Outlook - Microsoft Support
- If you're still experiencing issues, switching to classic Outlook may offer a more reliable experience: In New Outlook -> Help tab -> Select Go to classic Outlook
While I haven’t experienced this issue firsthand, differences in our testing environments and limited initial details may affect troubleshooting. Providing more specifics or screenshots will help us better understand and resolve the problem effectively.
I truly appreciate the effort you've put into this and hope one of these suggestions help resolve the issue.
