Edit Subject Line of an Email

If I scan a document to myself in Outlook, I like to change the subject line before moving to its appropriate folder. This allows for easier searching should I need it in the future. I can edit the subject line in the old version of Outlook; however, I don't see how I can edit it in the new version of Outlook. Is someone able to give me tips on how to edit the subject line in the new Outlook version?

    Dear Sandy Hays

Good day, and thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

We understand how useful it can be to update the subject line of scanned emails for better organization and easier searching. In the classic version of Outlook, this feature is available by opening the message in a separate window and editing the subject directly.

However, in the new Outlook experience, the ability to edit the subject line of received emails is currently not supported. We recognize this may affect your workflow, and we truly appreciate your understanding.

As a workaround, you might consider using features such as categorizing, flagging, or creating Quick Steps to help organize and locate your emails more efficiently. Here are some helpful resources you might want to check out:

If this functionality is important to you, we encourage you to share your feedback with Microsoft via the Help > Feedback option or through the Outlook Community. Your input is valuable and helps guide future improvements.

In the meantime, if reverting to the classic Outlook is an option, that version still supports editing subject lines.

Please let us know if you’d like assistance with that or if there’s anything else we can help you with.
