When I log in to OneNote on the Android phone app and get a file error, can't open "sorry, we couldn't open the notes that you were looking for. they may have been moved or deleted, or you may not have permission to open them", and get a sync error, while I still work normally on my computer and browser, and open it with OneDrive PC fine. Moreover, this only happens on the account I registered for Microsoft 365 family, while when I log in and sync with another free personal Microsoft account, it still works normally, even when I share from the Microsoft 365 family registered account to the free personal Microsoft account to open on the phone, the error still occurs, and I would like to emphasize that the remaining files of the free personal Microsoft account are still synced and opened on the phone normally. So what should I do to solve this problem?

    Hi Adop

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing issues with OneNote on your Android device. I understand how frustrating it can be when a feature that should work seamlessly becomes a challenge, especially when your notes are important and used across devices.

Based on your description, it appears that the notebook linked to your Microsoft 365 Family account is not opening or syncing properly on Android, even though it works fine on your PC and browser. This may be related to how the Android app handles synchronization with certain account types.

Here are a few steps you can try that have helped other users resolve similar issues:

Method 1: Clear Cache and App Data  Go to your phone’s Settings > Apps > OneNote > Storage. Tap “Clear Cache” and then “Clear Data.” Reopen OneNote and sign in again to see if the notebook loads correctly.

Method 2: Reinstall OneNote  Uninstall the OneNote app, restart your phone, and reinstall it from the Google Play Store. After logging in, try opening the notebook again.

Additionally, you can try the following:

    • Open the notebook directly from the OneDrive app on your phone.
    • Toggle sync off and on in OneNote’s settings to refresh the connection.

You may also find these community threads helpful, as other users have encountered similar issues and shared their solutions:

Some users have reported that this issue eventually resolves itself after a few days of regular use, especially after clearing the cache and restarting the app.

We hope one of these methods helps resolve the issue. Please test them and let us know your results so we can continue improving our support and guidance.
