Surface Pro Restart Loop

Today, for seemingly no reason, my Surface Pro got stuck in a restart loop. It says "Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. We'll restart for you." It then gives me various Stop codes, some of them having .sys in the name.

I can get to the UEFI settings and choose to reboot from a USB. I have already formatted a 32 GB USB and have downloaded a copy of Windows 10 onto it. I can get to the screen where it wants me to select the language, then I click next and it gives me the restart error again and gets stuck there. How can I fix this?

Did you try a different USB stick or not?

I just tried a 16 GB usb and it says there is not enough space to extract the recovery image files to it.

    Kirby,

There should be plenty of space -

Did you format the 16GB FAT32 FULL using another Windows computer?

    Full instructions:

    Go to https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/surfacerecoveryimage

(with a different Windows computer if yours is not working properly)

and download a recovery image for your Surface. You will need a 16GB USB stick

formatted FAT32 (use a Windows computer). Use FULL format and not quick format.

Give the volume a name like surfboot.

Unzip/extract the recovery zip to the formatted USB stick and then-

    1. Make sure your Surface is turned off and plugged in, and then insert the USB

recovery drive into the USB port.

    1. Press and hold the volume-down button while you press and release the power

    button.

    1. When the Microsoft or Surface logo appears, release the volume-down button.
    2. When prompted, select the language and keyboard layout you want.
    3. Select Troubleshoot , and then select Recover from a drive . If prompted for

a recovery key, select Skip this drive at the bottom of the screen.

    Note:

Be sure to select the Troubleshoot option on this screen. Don’t select the Use a

device option. If you select the Use a device option, your Surface will reboot

from the USB recovery drive again and the reset process will start over.

    1. Choose either Just remove my files or Fully clean the drive.

The option to clean the drive is more secure but takes much longer. For example,

if you’re recycling your Surface, you should clean the drive. If you’re keeping

your Surface, you just need to remove your files.

    1. Select Recover.

Surface restarts and displays the Surface logo while the reset process

continues. This can take several minutes.

If you continue to have issues, if you are in the US, you should go to the

    closest physical retail Microsoft Store

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/locations/find-a-store - and they will

    assist with this.

I got everything on to the USB and when I restart my surface, it gets to the Surface logo and then freezes. I consistently cannot get past that logo.
