Changing Office 365 Group Site Member Group permission

Hi

I have created an Office 365 Group via M365 Admin Center and this group also has Teams team.

I would like to change the permissions of the Member Group from Edit to Contribute. Members do not need to have the permission to create or delete lists and such, instead, because they are not very familiar with IT, they can mess the List settings and this has already happened.

It seems that I can't just change the permission level of the default Member group via Advanced Permissions Settings ([site URL]/_layouts/15/user.aspx). If I choose the Members Group, "Edit User permissions" -button is greyed out..

What would be the best way to change the permission level for the Members Group from Edit to Contribute?

    Hi @IMK ,

Permissions for the default SharePoint groups (Owners, Members, and Visitors) for Team sites that are connected to a Microsoft 365 group can't be modified.

Therefore, we could not change the Members Group permissions from "Edit" to "Contribute".

The workaround is to remove users from the default Members group, create a new SharePoint group with contribute permission level then add users in the new SharePoint group.

As michev mentioned , we do not recommend changing the default "Edit" permission level.

You can change the permissions, but this is not a supported operation and they can revert back in any time. To address such requirements, best use "traditional" site instead of a group-connected one.
