I have sent my surface book off for a replacement, as after a couple of calls the issue wasnt looking like being solved, oh well lets hope the next one has better luck. Its so flakey it started working again during the call but stopped by the end.
Intermittent keyboard issue with shift key
I bought one of the last surface books before the update to version 2 and everything has been really great so far except - shift+7,8,9,0 and shift+up keys fail to register. This is mostly the case but I can get it to give the occasional symbol - 88*****888*8*88*88899999999(99
- I can get this buy hitting both keys lots of times and hoping it comes up. This is not the case for any other symbol 1!2"3£4$5%6^ which all work perfectly and the shift key, both left and right are the same, so I don't believe its the physical connections. The up arrow key is equally broken when used with shift.
Additional interesting hints to the issue - normally when you press and hold a key until starts repeating then hit shift it stops the stream and hitting shift doesn't do anything, however on the 7890 keys pressing shift will generate another key press.
I think this is probably a firmware issue rather than physical but as a programmer no brackets is almost impossible to work with.

2018-01-16T19:42:12+00:00 I found mine wasn’t related to which shift key was used but was entirely random in when it would work. Both problems definatly sound like firmware rather than hardware, and what state it gets itself into. Good luck with solving your issues.

2018-01-16T19:46:55+00:00 My warranty has ran out so I sincerely hope someone from Micrrosoft side could take part in this conversation. Perhaps there could be a way still to fix it with updated keyb firmware.

2018-01-18T11:52:58+00:00 The plot thickens! I can confirm that it's not a hardware issue: if I press both shiftkeys down (left and right) the number four key gives me !'s, and if I press both shitfts down and press enter, I get X's. i'm at the moment talking with MS tech support to see if they can figure this pickle out.
