VirtualBox - Failed to get device handle and/or partition ID

Hello,

I wanted to install Windows XP in VirtualBox. I followed these instructions. I installed the program, created a virtual machine, but when running and selecting this installer, it crashes with an error.

Deleting and creating a Virtual machine or uninstalling and installing VirtualBox didn't help.

I was looking into the BIOS and I have Virtualization Technology (VT-x) enabled.

How do I fix it, please?

Thank you

    Hello Michal,

This might be an issue you have to take up with Oracle as it just may not be setup for running on the new code changes in Dev channel. They might have a fix. Understand they are quick to respond as well.

Have you tried running VMware Player. I use the Pro version but have not tried it on these builds. I run Dev builds in vm. Suppose I should start testing VMware in one of my test laptops that is on Dev channel.

If you cannot get this working through them, suggest filing a FBH report and share the link back in this forum so Eddie (MSFT) can possibly take a look at this.

    Regards,

    Hello Johnny_55

I've already tried these commands and it didn't help. Setting up 2 cores or increasing the ram (within the limits, I only have 4GB) didn't help. Thanks, but I wouldn't handle it right now. Again, this is a problem that only OS recovery can solve. Although, I can't guarantee it, but it's likely.

YEAH I have same issue ..

all my vms that were working fine. .from macos to Linux ( in virtual Box) now dont

but now being on the DEV Channel win 11 build ..just is not working either w virtual box

i cant seem to find any solutions..very frustrating..because if you want to roll back to windows 10 after install the preview they only give u 10 days. This seems to me a bit of a " not so good " practice
