Edge opens automatically at startup

Chrome is my default browser. I have double checked the recommended solution multiple times and "Automatically save my restartable apps" is turned off. However, when turning on the PC, Edge continues to open automatically - sometimes even with multiple tabs.

    Hello ChuckM47,my name is Luiz Cruz independent consultant and I'm here to help you;

    I understand that Edge opens during Windows startup;

    Initially I recommend that you try the solutions below;

    Open Edge and go to Settings;

    Click System and Performance;

    Disable the "quick start" and "Efficiency mode" options;

    Disable Edge on startup;

    Access the Task Manager;

    Click Startup and disable Edge from startup;

    Restart the PC and check if Edge still starts with Windows;

    Hope this helps, see you soon!

    The above procedure doesn't work with the latest Edge because the "Quick Start" has been removed. Microsoft seems determined to blast ads at you whether you want them or not.

    However, when I changed my option under "Settings" - "Start,home, and new tabs" from "Open tabs from the previous session" or "Open the new tab page" to "Open these pages: " and selected "http://www.google.com.au/"  as my start up page, the problem went away. Edge no longer starts up regardless of your settings.

    Seems that when you set the startup page to something where they can't blast advertising at you, Microsoft gives up and obeys its settings.

    Hope this helps other frustrated users of Windows.

    Hi LuizScruz. Thanks for the quick reply. I went through all of your suggested steps. I could not find anything labeled "quick start" but instead I disabled "Startup boost". I did the rest of your changes in Settings and Task Manager then did a Restart. Edge did not open. It looks like this worked. Thanks a lot!

    I had the same - no quick start but did have Startip boost and so disabled it. However, in Task Manager's Startup tab Edge was not listed so I couldn't so that part. While I was searching for answers I did find something funny, though... back in June of 2020 this same issue was reported as a bug causing Microsoft to launch an investigation into the cause. https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/microsoft/microsoft-investigating-edge-self-launch-on-windows-startup/ Now they've actually issued an update to make your computer do it on purpose. Microsoft.... ****????
