Chrome is my default browser. I have double checked the recommended solution multiple times and "Automatically save my restartable apps" is turned off. However, when turning on the PC, Edge continues to open automatically - sometimes even with multiple tabs.

    Hello ChuckM47,my name is Luiz Cruz independent consultant and I'm here to help you;

    I understand that Edge opens during Windows startup;

    Initially I recommend that you try the solutions below;

    Open Edge and go to Settings;

    Click System and Performance;

    Disable the "quick start" and "Efficiency mode" options;

    Disable Edge on startup;

    Access the Task Manager;

    Click Startup and disable Edge from startup;

    Restart the PC and check if Edge still starts with Windows;

    Hope this helps, see you soon!

    The above procedure doesn't work with the latest Edge because the "Quick Start" has been removed. Microsoft seems determined to blast ads at you whether you want them or not.

    However, when I changed my option under "Settings" - "Start,home, and new tabs" from "Open tabs from the previous session" or "Open the new tab page" to "Open these pages: " and selected "http://www.google.com.au/"  as my start up page, the problem went away. Edge no longer starts up regardless of your settings.

    Seems that when you set the startup page to something where they can't blast advertising at you, Microsoft gives up and obeys its settings.

    Hope this helps other frustrated users of Windows.

    Wow.....finally an answer!!! That's amazing! I would have to believe there would be some sort of class action lawsuit against Microsoft.....they forced opening on startup of Edge so they can advertise to you. Instructions to stop it DO NOT WORK... which are:

    1. Go to Start > Settings.
    2. Select Accounts > Sign-in options.
    3. Turn off Automatically save my restartable apps and restart them when I sign iN

    I've tried for the last year and gave up.

    I tried one more time this morning...I searched and found your post....and it worked!

    Really? This is so blatant....I know the US Justice Department have gone have Google/Microsoft/Apple for far less....we'll see what happens here...I felt I had no control to stop this from happening....until you found an answer!

    Thank you!!!

    This did not work....I tried that a while back...disabled in task manager, on startup and other places....not until someone replied with this solution did it work:

    "However, when I changed my option under "Settings" - "Start,home, and new tabs" from "Open tabs from the previous session" or "Open the new tab page" to "Open these pages: " and selected "http://www.google.com.au/"  as my start up page, the problem went away. Hope this helps other frustrated users of Windows."

    I find it crazy and most likely illegal that Microsoft makes you look at their ads on startup and edge pops up with an ad....not until i tried the above solution did it work....i would think some sort of class action...or a country suing microsoft for this to be fixed.

    For me, I found a setting: Start, home, and new tab page --> When your Windows device start --> Automatically opens Edge when you sign into Windows = Disabled.
