Hi Richard,
I'm Paul and I'm here to help you with your concern.
May I know the name of the file?
Can you also check the download link on the MS Edge Downloads page?
Thanks.
This browser is no longer supported.
Upgrade to Microsoft Edge to take advantage of the latest features, security updates, and technical support.
i open edge
it then automatically starts to download two files. ( I downloaded the files a year back) but then i deleted the tabs. However the files contine to want to down load on start up as though there were still tabs in existence.
Getting fed up with it. And want it to stop.

Sorry for the late reply.
The file being downloaded doesn't seem to be malware or virus.
I will recommend the following solutions.
> Open Microsoft Edge, click the More icon (three dots) in the upper right corner, and select Settings.
> Click Reset settings.
> Click the > icon next to Restore settings to their default values, and then click Reset when prompted.
Open Settings > Apps > Apps & features > select Microsoft Edge and then select Modify > select Repair.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and keep me posted.
i reset it, and the problem went away. I reloaded the old 'default' profile and the problem came back, so somewhere in the 'default' folder is where MS keeps tabs on the tabs.
The only things i could find are shown below. and if you open with a text editor you can see the tabs called up in these in a load of gobaldygook.....so perhaps this is where the problem lies? but there is no editor that makes sense of these files...unless you know of something.
Sorry if that didn't totally fix the issue.
The files from the screenshot seem to be coded and can only be interpreted by MS Edge.
Anyway, can you open MS Edge > go to edge://settings/startHomeNTP > then take a screenshot and share it here?
Thanks.
