i have a sony vaio laptop with no partitions no nothing just a hard disk with pre-installed windows 7 64 bit home premium. Yesterday i has installing some widgets to my desktop and after i have restarted the laptop windows coudn't start....it says bootmgr is missing. I tryied to use the recovery tools of vaio but the only option is toformat everything and install again windows 7 but i dont want this option. I have tried almost everything finding on net many answers about this problem but none of them it worked to me. I downloaded a bootable disk to repair the windows i tryied to do it manually from the prompt command but nothing....Its very strange though when i open the vaio recovery tools i can save all my files to an external drive but it appears a partition d: which before didnt exist

DON'T FORMAT OR CHANGE ANY HARD DRIVE, ESPECIALLY YOUR "C" DRIVE IF YOU HAVE MORE THAN ONE DRIVE !!! Before you do this go into the Bio Setup and make sure that the boot order FOR HARD DRIVES is correct. For some reason this can change and the computer may be trying to boot from drive D, E, G, etc. Look for the "C" drive serial number and make sure that is the first drive that Bios will look for to start up !!!!

When Win 7 goes bad, it really goes off a cliff, I've been chasing my tail all day trying to solve one problem after another. It all started when I did one little simple thing, add a 2TB Sata drive, then my system would not boot back up, it said it could be because of new hardware add, a Sata drive, give me a break. I got out my Win 7 disc, and ran repair, which informed me this "tThe boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible" Did I mention this a fresh install of Win 7 Pro that's only 3 days old. Repair ran, and said it fix the problem. but it didn't. I then got a new error message, the old BOOTMGR is missing. This is what broght me to this forum thread, and after boot from my Win 7 discs several times, now Ms is telling me that the version of recovery doesn't match the version of my windows install. Not to mention I had already run repair 3 or 4 times. All this because Ms is so intent on putting **** to your BIOS to track hardware because there are trying to thwart piracy. As it is right now I've wasted my entire day off, and have no choice but to do another fresh install of the OS.

Lucky you, at least u still can do another fresh install...I totally can't do a fcuking thing to it....Zzzzz
