Hello Keith701a,

Thank you for visiting the Microsoft Asnwers Community.

In addition to what Halima has mentioned please try performing the following:

chkdsk:

·          Click Start Orb > type cmd  in the searchbox

·          Right-click cmd in the results above > click Run as administrator

·          At the prompt type chkdsk /r then press enter

If you are not able to run your backup, you can try performing a Clean Boot to determine if something is interfering with your backup.

Performing a Clean Boot:

·          Click Start Orb > type msconfig in the searchbox

·          Click msconfig in search results above

·          On general tab, click Selective Startup

·          Click to clear the Load Startup Items check box

·          Click Servcies tab > click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box, then click Disable All

·          Click OK

Restart the computer and determine if the issue is resolved. If it is resolved follow the steps located in this KB to narrow the exact source.

See also the section on how to return your computer to a Normal startup mode by following the steps under Reset the computer to start as usual, after you have completed your troubleshooting.

Hope this helps

Mike, thank you for your answer as the log file contained this error for me:

Windows Backup skipped C:\dev\ because is it on corrupted drive C:.

It seems an MVP knows more than Microsoft's support group!

I am getting the same error now.  Backup worked fine for the past year, no changes lately.  What is going on with this error?  C'mon Microsoft, you wrote the software... what is this error and how do we get it fixed?

    Hi Halima,

I am also receiving the same error message. However, I ran the Command scan on my and I received the following message.

"Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them."

Is there a way that I can fix this without restoring my computer to it's original factory settings since I am unable to create a backup? This would be the second time I have had to restore my system due to corrupted files and would like to prevent that.

    Best,

    AB
