Am trying to use Microsoft Fix-It to repair my Windows Update software.  The installation of the "Fix It" program stops itself and gives Error Code 2755:  "The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package."

I ended up having to go to Microsoft Answer Desk to resolve my MS Update error problem.  The MS Fix It program completed stating that the problem was solved; but it wasn't.  I even downloaded the Stand Alone Hot Fix KB 9472821 but that didn't correct the problem either.  I had a chat session yesterday; but the problem had to be referred to a higher up MS Support Technician which will be getting back to me later today.

Hi I have the same issue as above with the Microsoft Fix it program.

    My operating system is:

OS Name Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium

    Version 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601

    Other OS Description  Not Available

    OS Manufacturer Microsoft Corporation

    System Model Aspire 5741

    System Type x64-based PC

    my antivirus/firewall is:

    Macfee Antivirus Plus (current)

My original problem is that my my windows update will not run and running the fix it program was recommended and that too will not run.

The error message when trying to run Windows update reads:

'Windows update cannot check for updates, because the service is not running. yo may need to restart your computer.'

checked if the service is running and re-started the computer, needless to say the same issue exsists.

    Fix it Programme

Starts its downloading engine and then gives this message:

'Troubleshooting cannot continue because an error has occured

We are sorry, but an error occured while downloading one or more components and the troubleshooter

cannot be run. Please try again later.'

Needless to say that I have tried but later never comes!

@TYamashita & anyone else with a similar problem: To avoid confusion, please begin your own, new thread about YOUR specific problem and computer. State your current IE version and full Windows version (e.g., WinXP SP3; WinXP 64-bit SP2; Vista SP1; Vista 64-bit SP2; Win7; Win7 SP1; Win7 64-bit; Win7 64-bit SP1) in your first post. Thank you.

Can I install Microsoft Security Essentials [*or any other anti-virus/anti-spyware application*] to clean up my already-infected computer?

I get this error also.  My particulars:

    WinXP Pro SP3

Anti-virus: Microsoft Security Essentials (which also won't update)

Firewall: Zone Alarm (which does not tell me that anything is trying to access the internet)

No, no Norton or McAfee app has been installed.

In addition: I recently had an infestation of a fake anti-virus app called, XP Internet Security 2011 which I think I have deleted with rkill and Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware.  MS Security Essentials scans don't find any virus/malware.

    • Which version of the Windows operating system am I running?

          http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/help/which-version-of-the-windows-operating-system-am-i-running

       • Is my PC running the 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows?

          http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/find-out-32-or-64-bit

Always state your full Windows version (e.g., WinXP SP3; WinXP 64-bit SP2; Vista SP1; Vista 64-bit SP2; Win7; Win7 64-bit) when posting in a forum or newsgroup. Please do so in your next reply.

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your subscription current?  What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)?  What third-party firewall (if any)?

Has a(another) Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on the computer (e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought it)?
