    Adding the Windows Update icon.

Click Start, type "Windows Update" and let the search results appear.

Press and hold the SHIFT key down, right-click on "Windows Update" (in Search results) and select "Pin to Start Menu"

Note that the Pin... option doesn't appear if the SHIFT key is not depressed.

    Hi Marty,

Do you find Windows Updates option in the Control Panel?

    1. Click Start > Control Panel.
    2. Click System and Security (which you see when you view Control Panel by Category).
    3. Click Windows Update.

Also, navigate to this location to find Windows update.

    C:\Windows\System32 and find 'wuapp'.

Check if you are able to open Windows updates.

You can right-click on 'wuapp' and choose 'Send to' Desktop (create shortcut).

    Let us know the result.

    Ramesh,

I have followed your directions exactly but get the following results:

    I click on "Start".

    I type "Windows Update".

I press and hold the "Shift" key.

    I "right-click" on "Windows Update".

I am give two options: Open or Open File Folder

If I click on "Open", I am taken directly to "Windows Update".

If I click on "Open File Folder", I am taken to the very long listing entitled "All Tasks".

I then type "Windows Update" in the "Search" box.

This results in:  Windows Update (2)

                             Check for updates

Turn automatic updating on or off

Nowhere in the process does "Pin to Start Menu" appear or become an option.

Can you see anything that I am doing wrong?

    Thanks.

    Hi FlyerEd,

I don't know why Ramesh's instructions don't work for you.

    Try:

    • Open Windows Update.
    • Left-click on the Windows Update icon in the address bar and drag it on to the start button.

    Cheers,

    J
