I get an error message with an error code- This device cannot start. (Code 10)".

Last year I bought a Compaq Presario CQ56 Notebook PC-brand new. At first everything worked great on it and then at the end of the year I discovered that anything I plugged into my imports wasn't recognized. I thought maybe it was the devices I was plugging in (digital camera and MP3 player) but a friend of mine told me that it could be that my imports have gone bad. I didn't know that was a possibility but he said I could have a virus on my computer that's not being picked up by my virus scanner and it's caused the imports to crash.

Is that really what's happened? Is there a way for me to find out for sure?

Please help!!!

**I should also mention that I tried plugging in my MP3 player tonight and when it didn't show up in my notification area, I clicked on Devices and Printers in the Start Menu, found my device but it said it needed to be troubleshooted (which I did) and troubleshooter didn't help because it said the drivers are all up to date. Another error message that appears with the MP3 player is "This device cannot start. (Code 10)"

    Hijenni_leigh,

Thank you for keeping us posted.

Does the issue occur on a different computer (running the same Operating System)?

    Method –

I would have you uninstall and re-install the device.

    Refer the article-

    Hi...

Once again thank you for replying to my previous message. I really appreciate all the help!!

I plugged in my MP3 player, once again it's not detected in the notification area so I went to Devices and Printers, saw a yellow triangle, right clicked on the icon, clicked properties, clicked on the hardware tab, and the name of the device says DTMB BDA TV USB.  The type says sound, video, and game controllers. I find that strange though because the model is FUSB200 and the category is storage device. In the hardware tab, it shows "device function summary." It says the manufacturer is "ALTOBEAM," location is "Port_#0001.Hub_#0008," and device status is "This device cannot start. (Code 10)." When I double click on DTMB BDA TV USB, a box appears for its properties, so I clicked on the driver tab and this is what it said:

    driver provider: DTMB software

    driver date: 9/2/2009

    driver version: 6.1.7600.16385

digital signer: microsoft windows hardware compatibility publisher

I'm sorry if that's a lot of unimportant information. I'm just trying to give you a lot of details so maybe they'll help you better understand the issue and what exactly I'm seeing!

I ran fix-it and this is the message that popped up: "We detected some problems with your system and were able to successfully apply the fixes, However, our verification shows that the problem still exists." It shows DTMB BDA TV USB has a driver problem and it wasn't fixed and then it also shows hardware changes might not have been detected. I tried troubleshooting but that didn't help. It wouldn't let me send my problems to the internet or something. It kept asking me to type in characters and then wouldn't accept my answers.

I then refered to the second article you recommended. I followed the steps to update the driver to my MP3 player.  I clicked on the "search automatically for updated driver software" box and shortly after doing that another box appeared that said "Windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date."

I clicked on Windows updates and it says no important updates are available, but there are 5 optional updates I could install. I wasn't sure if those were really recommended or needed for my MP3 player so I didn't install them.

I really am sorry if that's all information you didn't need. I just thought the more I provide, the more you'll have and maybe be able to figure out what's going on!

Thank you for all your help!!

    Hi...

Thank you for replying. I'll try my best to clear up some confusion in my previous message and hopefully you'll be able to help!!

All of my imports seem to be bad. I've plugged in my devices in all of them (there's 2 on the left side of the computer and one on the right side).

I'm trying to add music to my MP3 player and the error message that appears when I plug it in is "This device cannot start. (Code 10)" I've never seen this message before when I plugged it in.

As far as making changes on my compurter, there's nothing I can think of. It updates on it's own. The only other thing that I can remember is that last year I used a condo's wifi and ever since then I haven't been able to use my imports. Do you think I got a virus from that?
