Hi,
We are having the same exact problem as the initial person starting this thread.
After saving as on a network drive I can no open the original file until i close excel and reopen it.
I have recreated the scenario with a new file on my local drive and it works fine,
I make a new file, save on C drive, then save as on C drive, and leaving that file open, i reopen the original file with no problem.
If i do the same thing on my shared drive the original file is locked until i close excel.
I am using Excel from Office Pro 2021 .
Please help! Thank you
Excel file locked for editing after Save As
We have a single user who will open an Excel (O365 2002) file from a file share, save it as a different file name and then when she goes to open the original file, it's telling her that it's locked for editing. I checked on the file server and there were no temporary files and the file wasn't showing as being open in fsmgmt.msc.
I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas.
Thank you!

2022-10-09T04:28:47.733+00:00 I have the same issue. While the files I create are on a shared network drive, the file itself is not shared. There are no connections or links to other files.
These are files I create from scratch, and often need to save a copy with a different name and work on both files, but once I save as, I can't open the original file, I get the "The file is locked by another user" error. I have to shut down all open Excel windows, and then I am able to open the original.
This is very annoying and a waste of time, especially when I have to do this several times a day.

2022-10-11T12:46:45.46+00:00 SOLVED! The new MS Office update fixes this problem. But it didn't roll out to my computer automatically yet. So going to their website and installing the update manually did the trick.

2022-10-11T19:12:56.927+00:00 It was the latest Current Channel build (2208 build 15601.20148).
I just went to https://portal.office.com/ >> Office >> Office 365 apps >> and ran the latest update.
