    Hi,

As I understand that you want to know how to check how much RAM is installed on your computer as well as how to want to check how much RAM memory is consumed by the computer. I will surely help you with the information.

To check the installed RAM memory, I suggest you to follow the steps:

    • Click on Start.
    • Right click on Computer and select Properties.
    • In System Properties window, under section System, see Installed Memory (RAM) to know the memory installed on your computer.

To check the memory consumed by individual program you can check by following the steps provided below:

    1. Open Task Manager.
    2. Under performance tab, click on Resource Monitor.
    3. Under Resource Monitor you should be able to see the memory consumed by each program.

To check memory utilization, see at the very bottom of Task manager in the Status bar where it says Physical Memory: xx%

Hello, I was hoping to find out how much ram in total my PC could hold.   I know for sure that my PC came with two memory slots with 4 GB in each for 8 GB's total.  I already replaced each 4GB chip with an 8 GB chip.  Therefore I have been running 16GB for a while.  I was hoping that since this is a I7 inter quad core it might be able to handle 32GB or so.   Anyway, if you could explain how to find that out it would be great.

    Thanks a lot.

Nobody can tell you how much RAM your system can tolerate unless we know what version of Windows you are running and the manufacturer and model number of the motherboard inside so if you know, tell us.

If you don't know you can do this:

Click the Start button/orb in the lower-left corner of your screen. Or, press the Windows logo key on your keyboard.

    In the box enter:

    msinfo32

Select/click msinfo32.exe and the System Information dialog box will open.

Click on System Summary, click Edit, Select All (Ctrl-A), Copy (Ctrl-C) and then paste (Ctrl-V) the information back here in your next reply.

The site crucial.com is usually a reliable place to get information about RAM for your hardware and then have a scanner you can download (perhaps to your desktop), run it and it will identify your motherboard and tell you how much RAM it can tolerate.  The scanner doesn't install anything and you can just delete it when you are done.
