Windows update does not update (code 8024A008)

The update feature does not work on Windows 8.1. I have run the troubleshooter but it has made no difference and have tried some of the solutions listed on other posts but without success. Should I try through MSCONFIG (I am neither a developer or programmer)?

Thanks

Hello,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I understand that you get an error code 8024A008 while installing Windows updates. I can imagine the inconvenience experienced by you and will certainly help you in the right direction to fix the issue.

However, I would appreciate if you could answer a few questions to narrow down the issue in order to provide you with better assistance.

  1. Did you make any significant hardware or software changes to the computer prior to this issue?
  2. Is the issue specific to a particular Windows Update? If so, what is the KB number of that update?

{ To know the KB number of the update, open Windows Update and clickView update history in the left pane. } 3. Which security software is installed in your system?

The issue might arise due to various reasons including corrupted Windows Update installation package, malfunctioning Windows Update service or due to some third party software conflict. So, I would suggest you to try the following methods and check if the issue persists.

Method 1:

I would suggest you to Use Deployment Image Servicing and Management to fix Windows Update errors.

a) Open an elevated command prompt. To do this, press Windows key + Q and type on CMD right click on Command Prompt from the list and select Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.

b) Type the following commands. Press Enter after each command

  • DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth
  • DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

c) Close the command prompt, and then run Windows Update again.

Check if the issue persists. If the issue still exists, try the next method.

Method 2:

I would suggest you to refer to the steps posted by Ian Crawford replied on November 2, 2013 in the following thread. The steps have helped many community members facing a similar issue. Check if they are helpful for you too.
