IMAP Folder problem

I have a Time Warner Cable account set up as IMAP. It worked fine until I bought a new Windows 8.1 laptop and installed Windows Live Mail. Now I get multiple Send and Deleted and Junk files appearing, and when I delete them I am unable to reset my list of folders in WLM to match. Now I get numerous error messages from WLM that it can't access the server and can't sync email. Suggestions???

    Hi Sally,

    Thank you for the update.

What is the status of the issue now?

I would request you to repair Windows Live mail and check if it helps.

    1. Go to Control Panel.
    2. Under Programs, click Uninstall a Program.
    3. Locate Windows Live Essential then click Uninstall/Change.
    4. When a window appears, select Repair all Windows Live programs.
    5. Restart your computer after the repair.

    Done, no help.

You're seeing extra folders when you visit the account in webmail? If so, you probably have a mapping problem in Windows Live Mail.

In Windows Live Mail, right-click on the account name in the folder pane and select Properties. On the General tab, deselect Include this account when receiving mail or synchronizing.

In webmail, determine which of the three types of folder are the native ones, i.e. the ones that TWC accounts always have. You should be able to do this by trying to delete a folder; the page shouldn't allow you to delete a native folder. Once you've worked out which ones should be there (I think they're called Sent Mail, Junk Mail and Deleted Items), move any messages you want to keep from the other ones into these three, then delete the empty superfluous folders.

Back in Windows Live Mail, press Ctrl-Shift-T to start the Add your email accounts wizard. Enter your TWC email address, password and display name for outgoing mail, select Manually configure server settings and click Next.

Now enter the settings for the account* just as you did for the old one and finish the wizard. The account should start downloading the folders. Leave it alone to finish off, which might take some time if there are a lot of messages.

When all the folders are in place, right-click on the account name in the folder pane and select Properties. On the IMAP tab, select Check for new messages in all foldersand Store special folders on IMAP server. Then enter the server's folder names in the appropriate boxes, exactly as you saw them - Sent Mail isn't the same as Sent mail, for example.

When you're finished, you will probably be asked to refresh the folder list. Accept.

One last thing: press Ctrl-Shift-O for Options. On the Advanced tab, select Use the 'Deleted Items' folder for IMAP accounts.

Once you've got this account working properly, you can right-click on the old one and select Remove account.

I have talked to TWC twice including tier 3. They suggested I delete folders on webmail and Live Mail at same time and see if that works. Will let you know.
