What might svchost.exe with a PID code of 376 indicate? I am running Windows 7 Home Premium on a laptop with an i5 processor and 6 gigabytes of ram.  I begin to notice this, usually when in either IE 11 or Firefox, and I hear the CPU cooling fan come on.  Accessing task manager and selecting all processes I observe the svchost.exe process, with the PID code of 376, using from 25 to 40% of the CPU.  I have run the Microsoft Malware removal too and, MalwareBytes which are not finding any malware.  Microsoft Security Essentials is always running whenever this computer is powered up. I'd appreciate any help sorting this out that is available.

Thank you so much for your response. After running the system maintenance troubleshooter and then performing a clean boot I still noticed the CPU cooling fan running.  A check with task manager revealed iexplore.exe*32, PID 3368, running at 19% CPU and svchost.exe PID 460 running at 25%.  A few minutes after exiting IE11 the fan shut off, or powered down, and I have not observed it back on for the past 10 minutes or so.  At this point I'm going to call it a win.

Thank you so much for your response.  Ratandeep replied to my question shortly before you did and upon following the suggestions presented it appears that the problem has been resolved. Those suggestions entailed running the Systems Maintenance Troubleshooter followed by performing a clean boot, in the event someone else encounters this same issue.

    Hello Ernie,

Thank you for posting your question on Microsoft community.

I appreciate you for providing details about the issue.

This issue may occur due to presence of unused files or software conflicts.

I would suggest you to run system maintenance troubleshooter and check.

    Refer:

    Open the System Maintenance troubleshooter

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Open-the-System-Maintenance-troubleshooter

If it does not help, perform clean boot.

    Refer this article:

How to perform a clean boot in Windows

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929135

Clean boot is performed to start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This helps eliminate software conflicts that occur when you install a program or an update or when you run a program.

Note: After you have finished troubleshooting, follow these steps from section “How to reset the computer to start as usual after clean boot troubleshooting” to reset the computer to start as usual.

    I hope this information helps.

Please do let us know if you need any further assistance.

    Thank you
