Hi, this crash is hapenning the last few days. I don't have anything new on my hardware except a CPU fan which is working fine (rpm are stable, CPU temperature is normal and stable). I am using widnows 7 ultimate x64, Avast Internet Security, running on i3 2100 3.10GHz and all my drivers are updated according to Live Update 6. I ran my adwcleaner a few minutes ago but I got another crash a few minutes after (and now I don't seem to be able to install rome total war but that's for another time). I have never had this problem ever before.

    Hello Chara,

I would like to know some information about the issue so that we could help you better.

What is the make and model of your computer?

I appreciate you for providing details about the issue.

I also realize the inconvenience you are experiencing due to Blue screen issue. I will certainly help you.

The REFERENCE_BY_POINTER bug check has a value of 0x00000018. This indicates that the reference count of an object is illegal for the current state of the object.

This issue may occur due to software conflicts or corrupt installed drivers or BIOS settings.

I would suggest you to update all drivers and BIOS from the computer manufacturer's websiteand check.

    Refer:

Update a driver for hardware that isn't working properly

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/update-driver-hardware-isnt-working-properly#update-driver-hardware-isnt-working-properly=windows-7

Note: Modifying BIOS/ complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) settings incorrectly can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from booting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the configuring of BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Modifications of the settings are at your own risk.

    Additional Information:

    Bug Check 0x18: REFERENCE_BY_POINTER

    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff557386(VS.85).aspx

Please also perform clean boot and check the issue.

    Refer this article:

How to perform a clean boot in Windows

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929135

Clean boot is performed to start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This helps eliminate software conflicts that occur when you install a program or an update or when you run a program.

Note: After you have finished troubleshooting, follow these steps from section “How to reset the computer to start as usual after clean boot troubleshooting” to reset the computer to start as usual.

    I hope this information helps.

Please do let us know if you need any further assistance.

    Thank you

What do you mean make and model? I posted my CPU, OS and AV.

All the drivers are 100% updated, I have Live Update 6 from the manufacturer that checks them every week. The last check was manually yesterday. I never touch my BIOS settings except when I am formating my PC (which by the way was 1-2 months ago). I never touch my BIOS since any mistake could destroy my PC, and never had any compatibility issues with my hardware (that's the only reason to upgrade as far as I know) so I never upgraded and to be honest I am afraid to do it now or ever.

We do need the actual log files (called a DMP files) as they contain the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

Please follow our instructions for finding and uploading the files we need to help you fix your computer. They can be found here

If you have any questions about the procedure please ask

Related to your ATI video driver

Completely remove the current driver (or software) and install the newest driver available.  For instructions on how to do that Read all about updating drivers by my partner JMH3143 here http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki/windows_other-hardware/updating-a-driver/a5e6345e-af9b-4099-bef0-8d22254aa1c1?tm=1436753520149
