CPU Errors, Memory Errors, and BSOD after Windows Update (KB4056892)

After installing  the "2018-01 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1709 for 64-based Systems (KB4056892)" the system log began to record the following CPU error every minute or less:

Reported by component: Processor Core

Error Source: Corrected Machine Check

Error Type: Internal parity error

Processor ID: 2

My computer (ThinkPad X1 Carbon gen 2) would crash (BSOD) intermittently with this error:

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

At first I thought the system might be damaged somehow, but I ran Intel CPU diagnostics, and the processor passed with flying colors. I did a system restore to the point just before the update was installed, and everything went back to normal. Is this a known issue? Are other people seeing these symptoms? Is there a fix in the works?

    Unfortunately I can find no dump files on the machine. I have not run the system cleanup. Is it possible they were removed when I rolled back to the earlier restore point? That means all I have is the description of symptoms.

    Hello,

    Virginia is most probably correct but on a safer side share the dumps.

    We need log files(called dump files) that tell us what lead to crash.

    Please share them with us for a better analysis of the problem. Instructions can be found here:

    Thanks for the reply. I did a restore to the point before the update was installed, then I paused updates so that it wouldn't creep back onto the machine.

    I also noticed that the system was almost unresponsively slow right after signing in, but it was tolerable because it gradually sped up to normal within about 60 seconds.

    There’s problems with the latest security updates which affect AMD processors but there’s also reports of it slowing down PCs more than what MS have stated & imo the problems are also affecting intel, in my case slow beyond belief, inability to log in as the screen doesn’t appear, constant blue screen ‘your pc has run into a problem’ message amongst others. I recovered from a previous image & blocked the update using windows show/hide mini tool. You can also uninstall the update.
