I've used the following solution (trial and error):

    1. Multi select the files with the red error marks
    2. Right-click and select 'Free up space' (this will mark these files to be kept online only)
    3. Right-click again and select 'Always keep on this device' (now the mark will change to a solid green checkmark)
    4. Right-click again and select again 'Always keep on this device' (to toggle it off).

In my case, these files now show the normal green/white checkmark. Hope it helps for you (just try it first for one file).

Normally this happens when your Onedrive account is out of sync due to an account change.

    Open file explorer.

Right click your onedrive and select settings.

Click the Account tab and make sure your account is not showing any errors and is still there.

Let me know how you make out

    Hello Sarah

Thanks for your reply. I am now a little wiser. I can see no problem with the account setting and no changes have been made that I am aware of.

The one issue you haven't addressed is how do I get rid of the "Error" on those documents and pictures carrying this "Availability Status" message?

Hope you can help with this one

    Regards Diankaye, appreciating your help.

The error would have gone away if you reset your onedrive account as per the instructions.

Were you able to do that?

Also is it possible to send me a screen shot of what you are seeing?

And is your computer a work computer that you use to connect to files on your work server?

I am having the same problem.  I have one subfolder that shows a red "x".  I show no issues or errors with my account settings.  I do not sync this drive with a work server.  I did sync the folder with an SD card using SyncToy, and all of the folders sync'd except that one.  What do you mean by "reset your onedrive account as per the instructions"?  You did not provide any instructions.  Please help.  How do actually solve this problem so that the red "x" goes away and the drive functions normally?

While waiting for a reply, I tried moving the folder off my local Onedrive folder to another location.  It appears that Onedrive is now syncing the folder back to my local drive.  The availability status is now "available when online."  I wonder if that's because Onedrive has not finished syncing (Onedrive is horribly slow - much, much slower than Dropbox)!  If that works, I'll edit the reply to show this as a solution.
