Error message "Cannot create a multiple user file (WFL.DAT). You have not been granted full user rights for the folder."

I have tried everything except the right thing. I get this error message after upgrading to Windows 10 Pro v1803 when trying to start the app WordFinder (WFL in WFL.DAT). The file WFL.DAT exists on my computer in, most likely, the right places. (The app worked fine in Win 7.)

I have to be rather general: what do I need to do? I cannot even find privacy settings for individual users (only me at the moment, with Admin priviledges) or for individual applications (like WordFinder).

Thanks for your help.

Melchizedek, I ran a compatibility troubleshooter in the shortcut, and that fixed the problem. I can now open WordFinder from the shortcut and by clicking the .exe file itself. This is probably the first time a Microsoft troubleshooter has done anything useful for me :-)

I wish to thank you for your assistance in this case. You went above and beyond.

Best regards,

Hans L

Thank you for getting back to me. Make sure that your account has full access/permission to the said application. Refer to the steps below:

    1. In your Desktop, right-click on WordFinder icon. Select Properties.
    2. Go to Security tab. Click on the Editbutton.
    3. Select your account's user name from the list and check the box for Full control under Allow column in the Permissions section.
    4. Click on Apply and click OK to save changes.

Also, check if your account is part of the Administrator group. To do this, follow the steps below:

    1. Press Windows key + R, then type in control userpasswords2 and press Enter.
    2. Select your account and click on the Properties button.
    3. Go to Group Membership tab. Select Administrator.
    4. Click on Apply and click OK to save changes.

Let me know if you need further assistance.

    Regards.

Let me repeat my problem here, asking if anyone knows what I should try to resolve it.

I got an error message after upgrading to Windows 10 Pro v1803 when trying to start the translation app WordFinder, but after running it as administrator, I was able to open it and use it. (Thank you, Melchizedek Qui).

However, when I try to set the shortcut I use to start WordFinder to always run as administrator, here is what happens:

I check "Run as administrator" in shortcut

    Clicking OK

    Clicking OK

Error message:  "Access Denied, You will need to provide administrator permission to change these settings. Click Continue to complete this operation."

    Clicking Continue

Message:  "Shortcut. Unable to save changes to 'WordFinder.lnk'. Access is denied".

    Clicking OK

    ===============

In other words, how does one provide administrator permission in Windows 10 v.1803 so that one can provide administrator permission in a shortcut?????

    I am going nuts :-(

    Hans L

PS. In Win 7, there was a plethora of security and permission settings; in Win10, none???

    Thank you, Melchizedek.

When I follow your instructions, here is what happens:

I get to the "Check "Run as administrator", Then,

    OK

    OK

"Access Denied, You will need to provide administrator permission to change these settings. Click Continue to complete this operation."

    Continue

"Shortcut. Unable to save changes to 'WordFinder.lnk'. Access is denied".

    OK

So, where to I provide administrator permission (hope you know)?

    Regards,

    Hans L
