WINDOWS UPDATE ERROR CODE 8007371B - CANNOT UPDATE WINDOWS 7.

Hello,

For the past few weeks I have not been able to update Windows and I keep getting the same Error Code ; 0x8007371B. The updates will download but the installation process seems to be blocked. I have run an SFC/Scan which was clear and have also run virus/malware checks which were also clear. I have downloaded and installed the SURT which installed KB947821 but the problem with installing updates persists.

I have also tried renaming the Software Distribution Folder via CMD but get the message 'Access is denied'. I have three CAB folders on my system - CAB, CAB2 and CAB.old. I suspect there may be a corrupted file somewhere but I really don't know what to do to keep my system up to date. My computer is working fine otherwise so I would rather not have to undertake a clean Windows installation. If anyone could offer some suggestions as to how to fix this then I would be SO grateful.

Thanks in advance for any assistance. I am attaching my zipped CBS folder following the SURT scan.  My system is running Windows 7 SP1 x64.

Thanks again,

Euan

PS ; I've just realised that I can't attach a file so I'm going to paste the results of the scan below. Sorry but it's quite a long list and it would appear that I have some missing files but it wouldn't let me paste all the info as the file was too long.

It seems that there are a lot errors that needs to be fixed. Our best course of action is to perform a repair upgrade/In-place upgrade so that we can perform the repairs needed and to update your OS. You can refer to this article on how to perform an In-Place upgrade.

If you do not have a copy of the Windows 7 ISO, you can download it here.
