Printer Issue

Hello

I have a Fargo C30e card printer and am running Windows 10 version 1803.

When I attach the USB connector, the computer automatically installs the printer as a "Software Device".  The printer is not recognised by the computer and will not print.  It says that it has recognised the c30e card printer and installed the drivers for it... then it says it has been set up and is ready.

The printer simply does not work - but is still recognised as a software device in device manager.

I also have another Windows 10 machine but version 1709.

When I plug the same printer in with the same cable, it detects the printer and installs it as an 'Unknown Device'.  I then point the printer to the correct drivers on my system and it installs and works perfectly and is recognised in device manager as a printer.

HELP !!

a) why can I not get this to work on the latest version of windows (Version 1803)

b) Can I somehow move this printer from Software Devices to Printers

c) The ONLY difference in the two systems is the version of windows

any help would be very much appreciated.

    Hi Jim

    Thanks for continued help....

I guess what I'm most confused about is why, when I plug the printer in to the computer via USB, that it registers in device manager as a software device

on all other versions of windows, it has registered as an 'Other Device' and allowed me to install the drivers.  Even after a completely clean install of windows 10 it recognises the printer as shown above..... why a software device when clearly its a hardware device ?

    Cheers

    Michael

its windows 10 version 1803 that is causing me the issues - so there is no issue with the driver im using

    Hi Wilfredo

    Thanks for the reply.....

My main issue is that the printer is installing as a software device in version 1803 but installs as 'Unknown Device' in version 1709... with the unknown device I can then install the printer drivers and get it to work.... I cant get the computer to recognise the printer in version 1803 so therefore cant change the drivers …

    so very frustrating !

    Regards

    Michael

There is no Windows 10 driver for the printer, so you were living on borrowed time.  You might be able to get the Windows 7 driver to work in compatibility mode.   Download the latest driver and right-click on the install executable and select "Troubleshoot Compatibility."
