On an HP Zbook studio G5 running Mint 19.1
Plantronics C3320 headset plugged into a USB port (on the laptop, not on the G3 docking station)
The teams_1.2.00.32451_amd64.deb package installs fine, and the test call works as expected.
However when calling a coworker, all he hears is very bad static that gets louder when I speak.
Same problem when input is set to the builtin microphone.
In sound preference:
Device set to Plantronic Blackwire 3220 Series Digital Stereo Duplex (IEC958)
Input connector set to "Digital Input (S/PDIF)
In the Teams Settings->Devices, speaker and microphone are set to Plantronic Blackwire 3220 Series Digital Stereo Duplex (IEC958)

Hi all, any permanent solution to the microphone this?
Using root does not still work for me, Teams can't use the microphone.

surprisingly, microphone input still doesn't work on Fedora 33, in the version 1.50, however it works literally everywhere else.

I got the same problem on my Arch Linux box. The mic was on and working with Jitsi and so on for example.
To make it work with Teams I simply add my user to the group audio this way: gpasswd -a myUser audio
I found that if I go into the system tray and crank-up the mic volume that I am able to get a very noisy voice from the external headset input with a standard apple white headset. It is distorted and seems to have a "helicopter" sound in the background. I have experienced similar helicopter sounds on a (different) windows box with teams several years ago. A cheap set of ear buds seem to work fine with the mic cranked-up. pavucontrol was helpful.

This problem solved me when I opened sound from start menu(actually linux mint menu) open sound then application, I seen that there is a sound volume level baar at zero value for Skype app, I increased that and sone, try it, say if it was the problem, I am using Linux Mint 20.2 Cinnamon 5.0.5,

I'm experiencing the same issues.
I'm currently running Ubuntu 20.04 (added to all the relevant groups) and the mic doesn't work.
However - when I spin up a Windows 10 image on Virtualbox on the same hardware, Teams works perfectly.

For me, the "No Device" / "Custom Setup" issue was fixed by increasing the number of inotify workers in /proc/sys/fs/inotify/max_user_watches as teams apparantly requires these to list devices
In my case it wasn't a permission issue. Unplugging the headset and re-plugging it fixed the problem.

HervSylvain-0658 's suggestion about groups did not work on Ubuntu. So far I worked around the problem by installing the snap version of Teams, which works apparently because it uses a Chromium backend through Electron.

Did it work with root? Groups names on fedora and Ubuntu may be differents. For realtime acces to make music you have to be part of jackuser in fedora, audio in ubuntu and realtime in arch...
No, couldn't get it working with root either. That being said, I think there's definately a problem with the app if you need to run it as root to work.
I've tried with the above groups on Ubuntu 20.04. And to my disappointment, even the snap version did not work after all, it lost audio after a couple of seconds and now it won't work.
In Arch there is no realtime group to try if it works. Audio and/or video groups didn't work, neither running as root. In other apps the mic works fine.
Any suggestions what to try next? Switch to Fedora..? :D

I am having some issues with this as well, albeit on Fedora 31.
Package version: teams-1.3.00.5153-1.x86_64
Added my user to the following groups: 39(video),171(pulse) and 975(jackuser) on the advice of this thread.
Firefox 74.-.1-1 detects and records audio, as does audacity-2.3.3-1.
Managed to get it to record once, then upon needing it for a work conference call it failed.
Ran as root and teams does not pick up the input/output device (Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 gen 1).
The issue may have something to do with what browsers you have installed. As stated in https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/get-clients#web-client, Teams webapp doesn't work with latest versions of Firefox.
I switched my default browser in Gnome settings to Chromium (did not uninstall Ff), and it seems that Teams is working fine now, at least the mic picks sound up when recording a meeting with just me present. Maybe someone else can try and confirm?
I have tested this and can confirm your outcome.
Installed Chrome, started meeting and recorded audio. The recording saved with all audio - however in order to access it I had to open in the corporate 365 Stream userspace.
Whilst something of a workaround, the rpm really does need fixing.

Same issue here on Ubuntu 18.03 on an Alienware 17 R4. Works fine with Zoom & the OS generally, but Teams does detect it (lists it as a device), but for some reason doesn't appear to be able to connect to it. (It just keeps saying the microphone doesn't appear to be working).

Anyone else finding Teams for Linux to be basically unusable right now? It feels like an Alpha release, definitely not a 1.0 release. I have to run it as super user for it to start at all. Doesn't detect my internal webcam or internal mic even with elevated privileges. First time I've ever installed Microsoft software in Linux and this is disappointing.
To be fair to MS, I was amazed they even had a Linux offering for teams! And also to be fair, it does say 'Preview' on the icon, so I'd treat it as a beta. If you installed it from snap, just note that's not the official release and I found it to be worse than the native app download.
I'm actually quite impressed by it, apart from the mic issue, I haven't found any other issues - admittedly, I haven't used it extensively yet.
Exept screen sharing, it works well on fedora 31 if you have the cam plugged at boot and your user is in the good groups!
To be fair, I think this is the problem with Linux at the moment (and always has been, tbh). There are too many variants for developers to cope with, its not surprising that they have issues across all of the variants, its not like Windows or OSX where the OS is consistent.
The fact they've got a release on Linux at all is encouraging, tbh.
