Turns out the laptop had a hardware problem where the Synaptics Touchpad was not communicating with the system board (I suspect a loose ribbon cable). The problem is intermittent and I haven't had a chance to disassemble/reassemble the laptop to confirm all connections are solid. It was coincidental only that Microsoft Updates were due and the laptop was restarted exposing the hardware problem.

My laptop dosen't have touchpad drivers and when i look into device manager then i see that it says nowhere that i even have a touchpad but it is on my laptop. device manager only shows my mouse what i use navigating around the laptop.
When i try to install synaptics drivers then it prompts this message and dosen't install the drivers.
