In-built camera "dropping out" of device manager

My in-built camera on my HP All-in-one pc has suddenly started "dropping out"

If I look in device manager  the camera isn't listed, but a usb device is highlighted as an issue, if I disable then enable that usb device the camera returns to the Device manager listing and works perfectly. Then, after a shutdown or putting the pc to sleep the camera is not listed/working.

I haven't made any particular changes that I'm aware would provoke this issue.

See screenshots below - as I say, once the erroring usb device is dis/enables the camera is listed and works fine

Any help much appreciated!

Looks like your camera is internally connected to USB that you are uninstalling

I think there 2 cases for this problem - USB and camera drivers issue and camera firmware damage issue

At first reinstall USB drivers and camera drivers from manufacturer drivers

If issue is not resolved then it is probably camera firmware issue and you need to update camera firmware if possible

If camera firmware cant be updated you should install correct driver for this device manually by forcing it to install driver you specify

Does your camera have an external switch or hotkey set to turn it on and off? When OFF it will often not show in Device Manager.

Check with HP Support, their online docs and drivers, diagnostics, and ask in their forums about any known issues. Re-install the Camera Driver.

    ======

If the above did not help :

    Display Message

"Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"

    Recommended Resolution

    Uninstall and reinstall the device.

One of the drivers controlling the device told the operating system the device failed in some manner in response to IRP_MN_QUERY_PNP_DEVICE_STATE.

    With the Camera working

Type in the Start - Search box --> Create a restore point

Find at top and click on it - Create - make a Restore Point

In Device Manager Right Click the camera and uninstall the camera

do the same with that USB device.

    Then restart the computer.

The device should be re-installed after the restart.

If not then use the method you previously have to restore the camera. If that does not work use the Restore Point.

Thanks for the swift response. You're correct, I should have mentioned, the camera is a "pop-up" one - it's integral to the pc and slides down into the body of the screen when I don't want to use it.

My pc is an HP Pavilion All-in-One - 24-xa1009na  (photo below - camera popped-up above the screen)

I've just noticed that the disable/enable option doesn't work unless the camera is up, "out of the pc body" - I'm sure this wasn't the case before, as it used to prompt and look for me for facial recognition (facial recognition now displays it "can't start the camera, logon with PIN", so I've temporarily switched facial recog off)

I updated drivers from Device Manager & it simply said the best drivers are currently installed.

I've been to the HP support pages to update drivers and received a messagethat it can't find drivers for my product :o(

At the moment it works fine if the camera is up when I boot the pc.  I guess I can live with that, but I'd like it to do what it did before and not have a sub showing an error.

Hi Rob, thanks for the swift and full response.  See my answers in italics below.

"Does your camera have an external switch or hotkey set to turn it on and off? When OFF it will often not show in Device Manager. "

Not as such, but the camera slides up and down behind the screen - maybe that's switching it on or off? BUT . . . . before this issue, if the camera were down, then I needed to use it, I could slide it up and it would just work. Now I have to go into Device Manager and disable/enable each time.

I updated drivers from Device Manager & it simply said the best drivers are currently installed.
