Trouble starting Win 10 Virtual Machine with Bastion for first time

I was able to add the subnet and create the Bastion. When I login to Azure Virtual Machine using Bastion with User name and password it times out "OOBESETTINGS" I found a page saying this can be normal the first time. How do I find what I need to update. I still have not been able to access V.M. Windows 10 that was set up. Thx for the help

RDP does not connect either. I created a new VM to see if basic settings would get me to connect via RDP and no luck. I guess I am done with this BS.

Too bad, Microsoft really sells this stuff hard but it is not functional unless you hire an expert to set it up. A real shame since I was able to get AWS Amazon Lightsail up and running in 3hrs. The reason I tried Azure is because my boss has a big issue trusting AWS which is just his politics but is the reason I came here to see IF Azure was a better option.

I think we can help you a bit more. It is only a matter of learning.

Do you think that if you ask a six years old child what is the value of then he will know it?

It is new task for you and it make sense that you will need to learn it. It might take a bit longer but you can do it as others did. The forum is not a good place to learn, but a place for discussion and get specific answer. In this case I am sure that with a short learning (course online/offline or a good tutorial) you will be able to get it work

Anyhow, I appreciate the fact that you remembered to thanks these who tried (without success this time) to help you 👍. I mean it! Most people in the forums forget this part

Nope. None of that worked to get Bastion working. It starts the login process but then goes black and gives me the same error.

Maybe it's not as useful as Microsoft pushes it to be. I will try the RDP method next.

Hi @JP Win VM ,

Don't confuse between RDP and Bastion.

RDP is internal service of the windows operating system. In most of Windows Operating system you simply have it build-in and in other operating system including Linux you can install the option. In order to use RDP to connect to the VM, nothing need to be installed. You just need to open the firewall and you are OK to go and use it. It is not related to any external service. This must work for you in any Azure Virtual Machine with windows OS unless you really mess up the system, as this is built-in the operating system.

Bastion is external service. This a separate Azure Service. Configure the use of the Bastion is a bit more complex since we need to configure the external service which is based on specific sub-net which have to have the name "AzureBastionSubnet". The Azure Bastion service search for a sub net with that name in order to communicate with the virtual machine.

Note: I don't think that you should give-up so fast especially if you try to learn, but definitely you should first make sure that you can use RDP and start use Azure VM.
