Error Code: 0x80070005 when installing NVIDIA App.

Motherboard: Asus ROG Maximus Z690 Hero

CPU: Intel Core i7-13700K

RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB 32GB (2x16GB) 6200Mhz

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 Founders Edition

SSD 1: Samsung 980 PRO

SSD 2: Samsung 970 EVO

OS: Windows 11 Pro 22H2

OS Build: 22621.4317

When trying to install version 11.0.2.337 of the NVIDIA app I receive the vague error message: "Error Code: 0x80070005". I've disabled my Anti-Virus (Windows 11 built-in AV) as well as Windows Firewall. I've ran the NVIDIA App Installer in Administrator Mode. I've also made sure to give my user account as well as all Administrators permission to "Create Symbolic Links" within the Security Policy settings of Windows 11. I've given Full Control Permissions access to my account as well as all user accounts to the NVIDIA Corporation folder within my C: Drives Program Files folder. I've tried troubleshooting with the instructions provided on NVIDIA's Support Knowledgebase Page: https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/422, but nothing provided here has solved that error code. If I were to guess I believe my issue would have something to do with step 3: "3. Please review Group Policy settings, security restrictions, or the system configuration that might prevent the installer from completing its actions.", but the page doesn't detail exactly which settings to change. I would appreciate any and all assistance, advice and help. Please and thank you!

    Hi ,

I am Ivan, I will help you with this.

Try to do a clean install of the driver and it will install along with the Nvidia App.

Try to cleanly install the driver using DDU

    DDU:

    https://ftp.nluug.nl/pub/games/PC/guru3d/ddu/[Guru3D.com]-DDU.zip

Note: DDU is a third-party application to completely delete and reinstall the GPU driver.

    1. After downloading, extract ddu to a folder.
    2. Run the driver screen uninstaller.exe application, select Model tab, put GPU.

After uninstalling the GPU Driver, uninstall it for Nvidia GPU

    1. Click on the First option clean and reboot and wait for the process to finish.
    2. After running DDU and following the procedure:

Thank you for the reply! I actually did forget to mention that one of the first things I did was perform a DDU uninstall of the driver and everything NVIDIA related using DDU in safe mode. I then rebooted into normal boot with all internet access disabled and installed driver 572.47 with NVIDIA app selected with a clean install. Funny thing is the driver itself installed perfectly fine but I got an error at the end of the installation stating it failed to install the NVIDIA App specifically (no reason given). This issue seems to be a problem specifically with the NVIDIA App and nothing else that I've tried to install on my PC.

    Hi ,

Well, I checked, apparently it's a failure with the Nvidia installation itself. Some users have been reporting the failure on the Nvidia forum recently, between 1 and 6 days ago, and on Reddit.

Do a test by installing a previous version and see if it will work with the antivirus disabled.

Thank you for the reply! Unfortunately the attempted installation of version you provided (11-0-1-184) resulted in the same error message. I did find even older versions of the NVIDIA app from https://en.uptodown.com/ and I was able to download version 10-0-0-499 but the installation of that version also resulted in the same error.![](https://learn-attachment.microsoft.com/api/attachments/f3db0b47-0cc5-4062-9a49-10239055db30?platform=QnA"https://learn-attachment.microsoft.com/api/attachments/1354eda0-a163-4bc5-b0da-e71e8d49c111?platform=QnA" title="filestore.community.support.microsoft.com" rel="ugc nofollow">![](https://learn-attachment.microsoft.com/api/attachments/1354eda0-a163-4bc5-b0da-e71e8d49c111?platform=QnA

    Hi ,

Open the command prompt (admin) and run the command: net user administrator /active:yes

Disable the antivirus, any antispyware you have, such as webroot, restart the computer, access the local administrator account, use DDU to remove the driver, but select the option not to download the driver through Windows Update in DDU, restart the computer.

    https://us.download.nvidia.com/nvapp/client/11....

Initially install the nvidia app, not the driver by the local administrator user.
