Server 2019 - skip an update

Last month one of our 2019 boxes would not start after updates.

In the end got this running using DISM and RevertPendingAction

This month it's showing the April update again. Clearly I don't want to install that once more and run into the same brick wall - and no doubt it will then download the May update and want to install that.

Given that we have now completed our scheduled maintenance for this month it will now have to wait for the June update, but how do we skip the April one showing as downloaded and ready to install, and the May one?

The manual method here should purge the queue.

Do you ever sleep?

That is quite a performance!

I guess the best thing to do is ignore the nag screens until the June updates come out, then purge the queue as you suggest, then check for updates?

Odd how the virus updates keep rolling over to the latest but the patch Tuesday ones don't

Haha, too funny. Yes at least do the step 4a. should do it, I'm not sure if a reboot will be needed or not for it to loose site of what's been downloaded.

Hi,
Do you manage the update via WSUS?
The best way to control them is with WSUS. You could set up a Evaluation server 2016 as a WSUS server for the time being until they have sorted out the problematic update.

Updates are downloaded, but not installed - and of course I had to switch off that annoying auto-reboot.

Not using WSUS, but can look into that option.

Hi,
If you want to manage updates better, such as skip updates, avoid notifications, I recommend you to use WSUS.
Since you can manually approve updates and set deadlines for installation within the WSUS Administration Console, as well. It might be best to approve update rules manually after your pilot deployment has been updated.
