Will using ramdisk for temp folder cause a problem with Windows 10 update?

When doing a Windows 10 update to Windows 10 version 22H2, it gets to 30% of the update, then a reboot is done to complete the update. Dose this require that the temp files be saved until the update completes, in which case a ramdisk temp folder would be an issue since it gets reset on each reboot.?

It seems Windows does not like the RAMDrive when performing large updates, I never heard of that before, but it would be best not to use that when updating your system.

I lost an edit. It tried with temp folder on same partition as Windows 10, then on another drive, both worked.

This is strange, if the RAMDisk is causing the updates to fail, then you will need to disable that and use a Temp folder on another drive, are you short of space on your System Drive?

Apparently it uses the temp directory for the download. If I set ramdisk to 1GB, small updates worked, but large updates failed during download. I switched to using a temp folder on the same partition and also on another drive, both worked. My system has 32GB of ram, so I could use a larger ramdisk, but was concerned about 2 step updates.

Hi, I am Dave, I will help you with this.

The installation files for Windows updates are not stored in the normal Temp folder, they are stored in a new temporary folder created for the update directly in the root of the C drive, so using a RamDisk should not cause any problems.
