Disable Right Ctrl+Shift Switching Notepad from Left-to-Right to Right-to-Left, Windows 11

Hello,

I'm not sure how long this has been the case, but I noticed it about 2 months ago - when I type in Notepad and use my Right Ctrl + Right Shift combination to switch the language, it also changes from LTR to RTL, which never used to be the case in Windows 10.

I've checked all of the settings and nowhere am I using any key combinations to change the alignment, it only happens in Notepad, not Office or Chrome. Note that this doesn't happen if I use, say, Left Shift + Left Ctrl.

I'm running the latest update of Win 11.

I just love it when Microsoft does stuff like this. I was lucky enough to have this problem just now in Notepad.

It reminds me of how if you accidentally hit the edge of a cell in Excel - just right - you get hyperspaced to a completely random location in the spreadsheet.

Keeps things exciting around here. It's not as if I'm using these applications to try to do something useful with my time.

Update: While looking for additional info, it seems that there is a bug that keeps on enabling this option by default when you switch the language. In this case, you will have to submit it as feedback in Notepad settings > Send Feedback option.

In the meantime, your options would be to change your input language sequence or remap the shortcut for Notepad using Microsoft PowerToys (See image below).

Hi Phil, I am Paulo and I'd like to help.

This must be due to Notepad's "Right-to-Left reading order" option. When you switch the language, right-click anywhere in Notepad and uncheck the option to see if it helps.

Thank you very much for your detailed reply, Paulo.

Indeed, it really is a bug because I did check that the reading order was changing every time, and wasn't like that. I have just downloaded PowerToys - never heard of it before, but I see it has many useful tools, I'll see what I can do about the shortcuts.

I'm left handed, and use a mouse with my left hand. Like many, I select with the keyboard. CTRL + RIGHT-SHIFT (+ LEFT-ARROW or RIGHT ARROW) is a really common keystroke combo for me.

Now, much of the time, I am switching Notepad to RTL inadvertently. Did anyone test with left-handed people who actually use their left hand for the mouse?
