Server 2016 - genuineintel.sys WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR

Hi there

Today the box blue screened and would not restart (spinning wheel went on forever).

It did, however, load in safe mode.

The dump file reported this as

On Mon 5/15/2023 20:03:32 your computer crashed or a problem was reported

crash dump file: C:\Windows\Minidump\051523-39203-01.dmp

uptime: 4 days, 01:42:54

This was probably caused by the following module: genuineintel.sys (genuineintel)

Bugcheck code: 0x124 (0x4, 0xFFFFBC08819A2038, 0x0, 0x0)

Error: WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR

Bug check description: This bug check indicates that a fatal hardware error has occurred. This bug check uses the error data that is provided by the Windows Hardware Error Architecture (WHEA).

This is likely to be caused by a hardware problem.

A third party driver was identified as the probable root cause of this system error. It is suggested you look for an update for the following driver: genuineintel.sys .

Google query: genuineintel.sys WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR

I ran the Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool and it failed on both processors for the last three tests

--- CPU Frequency Test ---

Version 1.0.20.64b.W

...

Expected CPU Frequency is -- 3.33

..WinRing0 encountered a problem loading windows driver..

..ensure app is executed with administrator privileges..

--- Platform Controller Hub Test ---

...

Version 1.0.16.64b.W

...

..WinRing0 encountered a problem loading windows driver..

..ensure app is executed with administrator privileges..

--- IntelR spbc Module Test --

...

Version 1.0.11.64b.W

...

..Retrieved Processor Manufacturer

GenuineIntel

..Retrieved Processor Brand String

IntelR XeonR CPU X5680 3.33GHz

..

..spbc encountered a problem loading windows driver..

..ensure spbc.exe is executed with administrator privileges..

..

I also ran Memtest and it didn't indicate anything

Given that the test failed for both processors it seems unlikely that two failed at the same time. I'm not even sure if the Diagnostic Tool is able to load some drivers in Safe Mode. It was, however, started with elevated privileges.

Also I have no idea where genuineintel.sys is located.

Any ideas?

Thanks
