Disable fullscreen optimizations

Hello,

I just have a quick question about the option for "disable fullscreen optimizations." To get there, I right click a .exe app or a game and click compatibility. The problem is whenever I do check this option, alt tabbing takes significantly longer when enabling this for a game where it just gives me a 3 second backscreen period instead of alt tabbing immediately.  I have the same resolution and refresh rate set for both windows and the game. This also does not happens with my friends.

I wanted to know if their is another solution to this other than changing the game to windowed fullscreen since I prefer playing at fullscreen.

I have attached a photo of the option to disable fullscreen optimization.

Any help is much appreciated!

    • What games performance suffering with Full Screen Optimization on ?

Do your friends have the same, or equivalent machine specs, and the same apps\programs open when running the game ?

    • No surprise disabling FSO would slow Alt-TAB in some games. One of the 'benefits' of Full Screen Optimization is to make

Alt-TAB quicker, and more reliable with games that don't respond well to Alt-TAB in exclusive full screen mode.

    • Screen overlays (Steam, etc.) turned off, or on ?  Overlays are supposed cause fewer issues with FSO on as well.
    • I wonder if games that have an option in their graphics settings to use borderless or exclusive full screen need FSO

to be disabled more than games that don't have a borderless option ?

    .

So far I have tested on League of legends, CS GO, and valorant and all experience a 3 second delay in alt tabbing.

For pc specs, I have significantly better pc specs than my friends.

O, I do also wanna mention that I have tried this on 3 different monitors, there is one monitor that does not have this alt tabbing issue which is weird which is what I'm wondering about. They were all using the same cable, displayport.

The time difference with respect to the comparison of those of your friends, could be about the characteristics of the PC.

    • If it only happens with one monitor that would seem to rule out lag being caused by a background app you may have

running at the time your are playing the games.

Monitors with high response times ( 8ms an up I believe) can contribute to mouse and keyboard lag, so I suppose

doing an Alt\TAB comes into that category.

Are all three screens monitors, or is there a TV or two among them ?

    • Curious... What benefit do you get disabling FSO ? Less blur when panning, or ... ?

They are all gaming monitors, rated at 1ms.

The main reason I disable is mainly for more frames since it gives me significantly more when doing so.

I've no idea why, with only one of the three monitors connected, you would have Alt\TAB lag on two of the three monitors. ![](https://learn-attachment.microsoft.com/api/attachments/c852b21b-4b11-456e-8b1b-16cba73f4fdf?platform=QnA
