Touchpad not functioning correctly

I have a 4 year old HP Pavilion 15 laptop. The hard drive was playing up so I have installed an SSD in it's place. Rather than clone the old HDD to the new drive, I did a clean install of Windows 10 intending to migrate data and settings across later. I have also updated the BIOS through HP. Unfortunately, the scroll functions on the touchpad no longer work and the Device Manager does not show a touchpad installed, only a PS/2 keyboard & mouse. I tried following instructions on various sites but so many tell me to find the touchpad in Device Manager and install updated drivers. The touchpad is not there so I can't. Before I resort to reformatting the SSD and cloning my old OS & data to it, with all the bad pathways and garbage they contain, can anyone give me advice please.
