I can't turn on core isolation due to outdated driver usb2ser.sys. This is a Windows 7 driver and no update is available. How do I delete a system file/driver?

    Hi BigShotBenjamin

I am Dave, I will help you with this, that is an old MediaTek USB driver.

Open File Explorer, then navigate to C:\Windows\System32

    Search for usb2ser.sys

Then right click the version of that driver that was found in the Drivers folder and select Rename, and rename that file to usb2ser.sys.old

Then restart your PC and that will stop that driver loading

If you have any difficulty renaming that file, boot into Safe Mode and rename it from there.

Dave, thanks for the input. However because it is a system file I have to have system authorization to rename it. How do I get that?

    Hi BigShotBenjamin

That's correct, if you boot into Safe Mode, you should not get a permission error.
