problem with length of Environment Variables window

The Environment Variables window is too long for my screen.  As a result, I cannot access the “OK” and “Cancel” buttons.

Could a scroll bar for the entire Environment Variables window be added in order to allow those buttons to be reached?

Or is there way that they can be reached without such a scroll bar?

Thanks.

Hi RH. I'm Greg, 10 years awarded Windows MVP, specializing in Installation, Performance, Troubleshooting and Activation, here to help you.

The problem here is with the popup box scaling, it is too large and needs downsizing.

In such cases click on the Window to get it's attention, then hold Ctrl key and slowly roll the mouse wheel (or tap + or - key) to resize the WIndows to where it fits properly.

You can do this with any Window and it also works to frame internet pages in your browser within the WIndow.

Feel free to ask back any questions. Based on the results you post back I may have other suggestions if necessary.

Where are the results for the steps I gave you which have worked every time for hundreds of others I've provided the same fix?

This is an interactive process. I give steps to perform, you do each one and then report back results until something works, so I know what to suggest next. If you need help performing any step, just ask back. But please do not skip any steps. We often find out the skipped step is the fix.

    Thanks Greg,

Unfortunately, I didn't have any luck.

I opened the Environment Variables window, clicked on it, and I tried both of your suggestions, but neither of them worked.

If you place the mouse cursor on the top edge of the box does it turn into a two headed arrow where you can drag the top border of the box down, then place the cursor on the title bar and drag it back up to reach the buttons? You can also use this method to size the box how big and where you want it.

There are other suggestions for getting the window fully onto the screen to be able to move it around or access it's buttons here:

    Greg,

I appreciate your time and effort on this issue.  Thanks.

By the way:  In addition to trying your “Ctrl key/mouse wheel roll” and “Ctrl key/tap + or - key” suggestions in the EV window, I’ve tried them in some other windows, and I was able to adjust the size of the print in those windows.  Unfortunately, I’m not able to do that in the EV window.

I tried your “two headed arrow” suggestion.  I was able to get the two headed arrow in the EV window, but I wasn’t able to get it to move the top border of the window.  However, I can get it to move the left and right borders.  (For many years, I’ve used the two headed arrow to adjust the sizes of various windows, but I can’t get it to adjust the height of the EV window.)

I checked out the link that you sent me:

    • For Fix 1:  My “Advanced display settings” window did not match the window discussed in this fix.
    • For Fix 2:  I tried both options.  No luck with either option.
    • For Fix 3:  I don’t think that this fix applies to my issue, but I tried it anyway.  No luck.
    • For Fix 4:  I don’t think that this fix applies to my issue, but I tried it anyway.  No luck.
    • For Fix 5:  I tried this.  No luck.
    • For Fix 6:  I tried this.  No luck.
Note:  By “no luck”, I mean that the fix did not expose the “OK” and “Cancel” buttons in the EV window.

For many years, I was able to do what I needed to do in the EV window.  However, several months ago, after a Microsoft update, I started having this problem.  Obviously, a scroll bar for the entire EV window would resolve this problem.
