OpenGL Driver Version?

Hi,

I've browsed through similar questions about updating OpenGL Drivers and the capabilities of graphics cards and so on. My question is, after checking that my drivers were updated to the fullest extent possible, I figured that my graphics card was just too old to handle OpenGL 3.2 onward, but when I downloaded the extension to view my computer's OpenGL version, it appeared to be 4.3.0? But when I try to start up Darkest Dungeon, it says that my version is 1.1.0. I don't understand this inconsistency. Screenshots attached. Thanks for your help.

Hi Katelyn. I'm Greg, 10 years awarded Windows MVP, here to help you.

It's likely an error on the part of the game. Do you receive Open GL errors for any other games?

Expedite any WIndows Updates, including Optional, from Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update, including restarts, then go back and check again until no more are offered.

In MS Store > My Library > Get Updates expedite all store updates until no more are offered.

Did you run the driver updater link in the Intel Viewer? If that doesn't work then run the Intel Driver Updater from here:

    https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support...

Compare this with the PC or motherboard maker's Display driver from the PC maker's Support Downloads webpage for your exact model.

Feel free to ask back any questions. Based on the results you post back I may have other suggestions if necessary.

Hi Greg! Thanks for all your advice. I did everything you said. Windows is up to date, all MS Store updates are done, and I updated my drive according to the Drive Updater. I can't find the webpage you're referring to for this computer, for whatever reason. Maybe I'm just bad at searching.

None of the updates helped, though. I'm still getting the same error. I don't know if this will help, but here's my System Summary:

And here's the OpenGL Viewer now:

Edit: Forgot to mention, no, this is not happening with any other games. Also, thanks again for your help!

Hi Katelyn. I'm Greg, 10 years awarded Windows MVP, here to help you.

It looks like it's no longer prompting you to update display driver. Are you still getting the error in the game?

What is the make and full model number of your PC? To get the drivers one must go to the PC Maker's Support Download web page for the exact model, compare the latest there with the ones presently installed in Device Manager.

Dell and HP have Support Assist app or Dell Update app to do this automatically for you, as do some other makers like Lenovo.

You can type System Information in Search, open it and look for System Model. Then report it back here and I'll find your drivers for you.

Hey Greg. Yes, I am still getting the error.

My System Model is Z97N-WIFI, by Gigabyte. I did find a page for this PC, but couldn't find any information on drivers. I would greatly appreciate your help in that regard. Thank you.

The drivers are here for either Rev. 1.0 or 1.1. I notice they're rather old with newest from 2016, and Windows 8.1. So you're probably going to get newer from the Intel updater which is why it was probably pushed.

Besides given it's advancing age you'd need to source newer drivers from the various hardware component manufacturers IF there are issues with that component. You've already done that with the Intel display driver, so there may be nothing else you can do, although if you get the GL error again I'd ask the game Support what they recommend while referencing your motherboard since they may know workarounds or fixes.

This is perfectly normal with older hardware. In terms of performance I never expect hardware to run fast much longer than 7 years and 10 is really pushing it. I am able to keep some PC's running fast for 10 years only by the pure luck of the components not suffering for newer drivers, and always having a pristine Clean Install, the quality of which is what matters the most in WIndows 10 and 11 - though this will not be able to upgrade to 11, you're not missing much.

When you have time for a project look over this gold standard Windows 10 Clean Install which compiles the best possible Install of Windows which will stay that way as long as you stick with the tools and methods given, has zero reported problems, and is better than any amount of money could buy: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki.... Read over it first, take notes, ask back any questions so you're prepared. If this thread is already closed so you can't reach me, you can reach me in the tutorial's Comments section.

You will get and keep the best possible install to the exact extent you stick with the steps, tools and methods in the linked tutorial. It's a great learning experience that will make you the master of your PC because you will learn everything that works best and how to apply it with your own hands.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let me know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.
