Accidentally Delete Windir in System Variable

Hi,

I accidentally delete WINDIR when I change the setting in System Variable.

Now, I can't open any applications. For example, I can't run the administration for Command Prompt, or open Registry Editor.

Could you help me to reset WINDIR in System Variables?

Thanks.

    Hi Saltgrass,

When I check my account, I am the administrator of my laptop. When I access regedit.exe in C:/Windows, it doesn't allow me to run it by double click on it or running as administrator.

Hi and thanks for reaching out. My name is Bernard a Windows fan like you. I'll be happy to help you out today.

Actually, I have the same problem and by following the steps below fixed my issue, If none will work from the above solution, I suggest doing an in-place upgrade wherein it will upgrade the device to the latest version and repair all issues without deleting any files.

Kindly follow the steps from this link: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/for...

Note: If this will not work you may need to do a custom installation of Windows 11:

Let me know how does it go and I hope that helps.

    Hi Lester,

    Thanks for your reply.

However, I couldn't open any downloaded files and run anything as an administrator.

Besides, I open the UEFI to access the Boot Manager Menu, but Windows doesn't allow me to do it.

Do you have any other solutions?

    Thanks.

Thanks for detailed reply, in this case we need to run a custom installation to fix the issue, however, the process will delete all apps but will retain all files on the PC, if you are okay with that, you may follow the steps provided below:

Under Create Windows 11 Installation Media click Download Now or simply click this link to download the Media creation tool: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2156295

Run the media creation tool. You'll need to be an administrator to run this tool.

If you agree to the license terms, select Accept.

Under Select language and edition make sure to check Use the recommended options for this PC.

Select which media you want to use:

Select ISO file then save the ISO file to your PC specifically on your desktop.

Once done downloading the ISO, kindly right-click on ISO then click Mount> then Click Setup.exe

Then follow the second picture to the last from this link: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/for...
