Hey Sereena Kurunkadan!
You’re definitely not alone in finding the SendGrid deletion process a bit tricky, especially now that SendGrid resources are managed as SaaS offerings within Azure. If you’ve noticed there’s no “Delete” button, or something is blocking the deletion, it’s usually due to a few well-known hiccups in how Azure and SendGrid sync their resources. Here’s how you can work through it, step-by-step.
- Why Can’t I Delete My SendGrid SaaS Resource? • No Delete Button: For SendGrid SaaS resources (especially those created after Azure’s integration changes), the deletion path isn’t always obvious—you might only see subscription or plan management options, not a straightforward “delete.” • Legacy Resource Conflicts: If your resource was migrated from the old integration or there are references to legacy SendGrid accounts, Azure might block deletion until all ties are fully severed.
- How to Properly Remove a SendGrid SaaS Resource
A. Remove Account References in SendGrid:
• Open your SendGrid account directly, either through the Azure portal or by logging into sendgrid.com.
• Go to Settings > Account Details > Your Products. Remove any references to the resource you want to delete.
• If the “Your Products” tab is disabled, check Settings > Teammates and delete entries related to the old account.
B. Unsubscribe from SendGrid via Azure Portal:
• In the Azure Portal, go to the specific SendGrid SaaS resource you want to delete.
• Look for an Unsubscribe or Cancel Subscription option—this is sometimes at the top of the resource overview page.
• Confirm cancellation and follow any prompts. Azure will process the unsubscription, which unlinks the SaaS resource from your subscription.
- After Unsubscribing: The Waiting Game
Even after unsubscribing, deletion isn’t always immediate. It can take several days (sometimes up to 10 days) for the change to propagate between Azure and SendGrid. Once the resource is fully unlinked, the “Delete” button often becomes available, or the resource disappears from your resource group.
• Tip: If you’re also trying to delete the whole resource group, be sure all SendGrid references and linked items are removed. Otherwise, Azure blocks the group deletion.
- Still Stuck? • If the resource still can’t be deleted after following these steps: • Try showing “hidden resources” in the Azure portal, and delete any lingering items. • Sometimes, a cached or orphaned resource requires you to open a support ticket with Microsoft Azure or Twilio SendGrid. Sadly, this runaround between Microsoft and SendGrid support isn’t unusual.
- What If the Azure Portal Provides No Options?
In rare scenarios where you see no “Unsubscribe” or “Delete” button at all, and SendGrid’s own portal options appear grayed out, your best bet is to:
• Wait several days after canceling the subscription for deletion options to become available.
• If there’s still no progress, raise a support ticket directly from the Azure portal. Microsoft Support can often manually remove the SaaS resource for you behind the scenes, especially if it was created or migrated through their backbone.
Bottom line:
Deleting a SendGrid SaaS resource from Azure is a multi-step process—a combo of unsubscribing in Azure, cleaning up references in SendGrid itself, and sometimes just giving Azure time to catch up. Don’t be surprised if it takes a bit for the option to show up. If all else fails, don’t hesitate to reach out to Azure support—they’re used to dealing with these exact issues!
Hope this helps you get things cleaned up without too much more hassle!
Best Regards,
Jerald Felix
