Find that when I copied folders from an user that has left to another user. The folder permissions look ok but the files have administrator in full control. How do I change all the files to have a new user in full control without having to change the permissions in each file?

I am an administrator. If I select a folder redirection folder I get Network error Windows cannot access \DC3\folder_redirection\user You do not have permission to access \DC3\folder_redirection\user. Contact your network administrator to request access.

I can't tell from following this thread whether the original question was addressed. I am the sole user of my computer and I don't want to change permissions for each file I want to delete, etc. How to I change the default so that I always have automatic permission to add, edit, move, and delete files as I desire?

I would recommend that you ask your own question. In it you should explain what files and folders you are having a problem with. Permissions are normally set at a topmost folder and all files and subfolders inherit those permissions. Maybe include a screen snapshot of the current permissions.

Hi! So, I may know a faster way to grant full control on every file in a folder, since I used it lately to restore full admin access to my files since my laptop was hacked and a lot of my files had my permissions denied for my account.
If you right-click a folder and go to Properties>Security>Advanced and check the box saying "Replace all child object permission entries with inheritable permission entries from this object" then click Apply, all files in that folder will have their permission entries restored to default (full-control).
The user has left and that account is not being used. I did not follow through.

Right-click folder Properties\Security\Advanced, add the user and enable inheritance.

Hello, I am finding a solution to this problem impossible. Your suggestion does not work. It happens to be the right process but that is why we are here. The right process does not work anymore. I've been using this process, the one you just typed for 10 years. Now it doesn't work.
My understanding is the user Folder Redirection is set up
folder redirection was not mentioned, if you have a new question about that I'd suggest starting a new thread.
Select Replace all child object permission
might be safer to Add rather than Replace

Thanks for posting here.
The Settings tab in each folder's properties dialog box contains a check box labeled Grant the user exclusive rights to My Documents. If you select this check box, the user and the local system have full control over the folder, and no one else, not even the administrator, has any rights to it.
As mentioned, we will not make any changes there. I have doubts that to which level we would like to grant full control permission of the new user. Folder, subfolders or files?

My understanding is the user Folder Redirection is set up to with user with Ownership with full control of this folder only. I assume I may no changes there.
Then your procedure would be at the Desktop level. Correct?
When I first open I will get "You must have Read Permissions to view the properties of this object. Select Advanced. Get Unable to display current owner. Select change and change to administrators. Select Apply. Select OK to close the window. Select advanced. See user has full control of This folder, subfolders and files. Select Enable inheritance. Select Replace all child object permission entries with inheritable permission entries from this object. Remove duplicate System. Apply. Change owner to user. Apply
Does that look correct?
