Where is the view message source option for Outlook gone?

Up until a very recent "patch", there was a "view message source" option on the right click menu - without having to open the email. This is now gone.

This functionality is essential for detecting phishing emails. Who was the genious that thought it was a great idea to remove it?

And How the hell can I view a message source withotu actually opening the email (and triggering any embeded links that allow tracking/trojans)?

Of course - with every "upgrade" or "feature enhancement" everything takes ten more steps and twice as long to do.

You have to be kidding me.

Ever since the dawn of time, there was a simple button showing you WHOLE message source. As in, "Hey, can you check this email our design department made, and let us know that the html and css is formatted properly". But noooooooooooooooooo, lets make this as convoluted as possible, to simply piss off the users paying for Office 365 subs, but "keeping" the functionality, but show them only message headers, so that you need to open separate window, go to file, then in slide in "menu" select properties, and in small window coded in ASM show them, wait for it, MESSAGE HEADERS ONLY!

Then some other "devops" from the lowest floor of basement, frustrated by his life, while contemplating the environment said "Hey! Lets kill that functionality from the online version of Outlook as well!!!1"

You people are such a joke, that its getting ridiculous. If I could, I would switch to Netscape Navigator, because despite being dead for years its still works better than any of the new stuff MSFT releases.

I agree with the frustrations others are having, this used to be an easily accessible feature which has now vanished.

Saving the message as a HTML, or msg, also doesn't work as the message is reformatted and the original source is lost.

However, I think I have figured out where it has gone - but this only seems to be for some message types.

If you view a message and right click anywhere you don't see the "View Source" option.

Instead, do the following:

1. Open the email as normal - this can either be done from the "Inbox" view or when the email is opened up on its own
2. Place your mouse within the message - a single mouse click to any blank space in the message will make sure its in focus
3. Press CTRL+A (Select all basically) - everything should then be selected and be "greyed" out.
4. Then right click and you'll find the "View Source" option.

Caveats

• Some other messages I have tried this on it doesn't seem to work very well, sometimes I needed to click at the very bottom of a message for the option to show - basically anywhere that wasn't the body of the email, as you can see in these two screenshots the right click was only a little further down before the option showed.
  
• This doesn't show on text emails
• Even when using "Ctrl-A" this doesn't show on every message. Instead it seems to be the reverse, the message doesn't show "View Source" with it all selected, but does without.
• All Selected - no option
• Right Click as Normal

Hope that helps! No idea why it can't just be in the context menu without needing to select all. Worrying that Microsoft staff also don't know this and have instead been showing people how to view the headers!

There is probably some method to the madness here, not got the patience to try and figure it out at this time - at least I can view the source for the message I needed it on.

Sweet mother of basic features...

while the trick doesn't work for ALL messages (I was unable to do that on msft forum notification), it will work son SOME (which is better than none)

Reopening this thread in case someone can help — same problem for me on Outlook for Mac, Version 16.92 (24120731). "View Source" is grayed out and the Select All trick does not seem to work. Advice welcome!

WORKAROUND FOUND: "View Source" is not visible in the original email account inbox, but when I move the message into the On My Computer inbox, the the menu item View Source becomes visible. Leaving this here in case someone else needs it.
