New Outlook memory usage

Old Outlook has a reputation for bloat. I used Task Manager to see how much memory Old vs New use. I was amazed to see that New Outlook uses over 1GB on my system. The "bloated" Old Outlook uses around 200MB. I thought that New Outlook was based mostly in the cloud. And with 1GB of memory, they still have a product that doesn't work as well, nor have as many features, as the Old one. Software design has changed a lot since I was doing it back in the 70s - 90s. Maybe we really should let AI do it.

    Dear BobPlantz,

Good day! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you.

I understand your concern regarding the memory usage of New Outlook. According to Microsoft, the new version of Outlook is designed to be more feature-rich and provide a better user experience. It is true that New Outlook is based mostly in the cloud, but it still requires some local resources to function properly. The memory usage of New Outlook may vary depending on the size of your mailbox and the number of add-ins you have installed. However, Microsoft is constantly working to optimize the performance of New Outlook and reduce its memory usage. Here is the list of things to look forward to in the new Outlook for Windows - Microsoft Community Hub.

If you are experiencing any issues with New Outlook, please let me know and I will be happy and try my best to assist you. Please understand that our initial response may not always resolve the issue right away. However, with your help and more detailed information, we can work together to find a solution. Thank you for your help.

I have to run several mailboxes in my client, different domains, and use a couple of approved add-ins. Something has recently changed as the performance has ground to a halt on my MacAir with 8GB RAM and an M2 chip. Looking at the task use tool, it is all down to MS Outlook and or MS Word. How can I try to resolve this issue? I think I might have to revert to Apple Mail or OWA until there is a workaround.

    Thanks

    JP

I get that you're trying to be helpful, but I can't understand why MS released this new version with the number of bugs and not thought through impacts it has on general MS Outlook usage. I'm using new MS Outlook now on a development workstation with nothing else open and it is reporting high memory utilization. What's wrong with this picture? What QA process was used when MS tested this for this to be so prevalent a problem?

Also, why does Microsoft decide to use a commonly use key for editing, namely the backspace key, to mistakenly archive an email in the middle of trying to edit one?

Microsoft keeps telling us about the new features in New Outlook, but they don't fix a long-standing bug: The read status of email messages from gmail and yahoo accounts don't sync. If I read a message in one of my gmail accounts in New Outlook, a few hours later the message reverts to "unread" status. Old Outlook and Mail handle this just fine, so I know that Microsoft engineers know how to do this. I'm a retired computer science professor. When a student submitted a project to me, I would not add points for additional features when the basic solution had a bug.

My Outlook was sitting at 33GB of memory usage and causing my Mac to spit out a memory usage alert this morning. I can understand a GB or 2 at the most, but 33 GB? What's going on with Outlook?
