I don't know it it's just a coincidence, but I currently also have massive GPU (not CPU) usage from Desktop Window Manager parallel to using Outlook. So now Outlook as well as DWM make my system very slow nearly always when I work something.
High CPU usage when typing a message in Outlook
OS: Win 11 Pro
Office: 2016 Pro
Hi everyone,
CPU activity goes to 16-22% when typing a message in Outlook 2016 and returns to 1 % when typing stops.
Deactivating (all) add-ins and Graphic acceleration did not solve the issue.
Deactivating spell check options did not cure the problem either.
The problem seems to be specific to Win 11 and does not occur on Win 10 OS.
If anyone has any suggestion on how to solve this issue...

2025-01-22T11:26:42+00:00 Just to add to the list. I have noticed this also. I am running on a laptop. I run a 14900HX so my usage is not very high in percentage, but the CPU frequenty goes really high and I see my CPU temp going upto 95°C with a lot of fan noise.
I have version 2412 (Build 18324.20194). Everything was freshly installed in november as this is a new laptop. So no historic issue can be caried over.
I noticed that eventhough it is (slightly) elevated when outlook is open. When having the New message window open and active, it really goes up. When the window is not active, it seems to go back down.

2025-01-31T13:38:23+00:00 Hello again, dear other users suffering from Microsoft's Outlook bug,
there is another thread where a user complains about the same issue: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/all/why-does-my-laptop-fan-start-every-time-i-type-an/f5acb9da-1375-48fe-b118-9e05ef8c8044
Unfortunately, there is also no solution. It's really a pity with Microsoft. Maybe, it's time now to switch from Outlook to Thunderbird, because in fact, Outlook is unregarded and supportless and Microsoft does not care at all about bug reports. Why then pay for it?

2025-02-03T15:59:51+00:00 Tried the fixes provided in Palcouk's thread. No luck.
We have been barking over that bone since November last year, yet Microsoft still ignores the issue.
Indeed, the solution may be leaving all Microsoft products once and for all. Market defective products and having users pay for fixes appears to be the company's business model.
Again, the quick (and dirty) fix is to type the messages in the notepad, then copy it across into Outlook.
Pretty stupid, I agree, but it will prevent your PC from going red hot, and draining the batteries on the blink of an eye. -

2025-02-04T06:29:43+00:00 We should also all get in touch with our local IT magazines, explain the Outlook bug to them and ask them to publish about it. That may impose some pressure on Microsoft and prevent others from switching from other e-mail clients to buggy Outlook.
