Conditional Format

I cannot remove the $ signs in the conditional format range as I was able to do in Excel 2003

This is driving me crazy as when I paint over previous formats the system adds new rules instead of replacing the previous rule

I end up with multiple rule rows instead of only one

How do I remove the $ signs ?

How do I make the rule refer to only one cell and not a range ?

Hi,

Oh, those dollar signs - they are used to fix a cell (or column or row) address. Pressing F4 will toggle them, but you might have to press it several times.

Kind regards

Hans

Another way to edit is to click F2. Once you're in a field that doesn't seem to allow editing (such as the awful new conditional formatting fields in XL 2007), when you try to click on the dollar sign for example, or try to move within the field you want to edit, the field picks up more characters instead.

Once you're in the field itself, click F2 - then you should be able to move around the field with your arrow and edit. Good luck though! I removed the $ signs from my conditional format and then copied right and good old XL 2007 kept the original column anyway.

This F2 command seems to work in just about any field that you need to edit.

    Hi Tokyo

I do not see the $ in the Format Cells/Number

I only see the original format which is Number

The Conditional format looks like this  http://rapidshare.com/files/349106973/Conditionalformatproblem.JPG.html

=$E$10:$E$178   I need to remove the dollar signs from here

"How do I make the rule refer to only one cell and not a range ?"

    In EXCEL 2007 try this:-

Home / Conditional Formatting / Manage Rules . . . / Conditional Formatting Rules Manager should launch / in here there is an:-

    Applies to

     - field. It is here where you can change the range to which Conditional Formatting applies.

Clicking on the little box to the right of this field will take you to the current range (and you can edit from there too).

In EXCEL 2007 try this (to remove dollar sign(s):-

     - go into the cell(s) from which you wish to remove the dollar sign(s)

     - Home / Font group / click the cell in the lower right hand corner / Format Cells should launch / Number tab / the setting in here will be the dollar sign / change it to something else like General or Number or whatever / OK
