I'm at my wits end. I'm having the same problems with an embedded Excel spreadsheet. However, when I'm opening the Word document (Word 2010 on Windows 7 machine), Excel is not running and there are NO add-ins enabled in Excel to boot. I've followed the exact same steps above, however, at Step 5 there is nothing to disable so I'm at a loss as to why this is happening.
I have three different users with this issue - not to mention myself at this point. Two on Office 2010 and one on Office 2007.
Converting the Excel object to Binary is not working either.
